Physical Education News

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back to the last PE newsletter for Semester 1, 2025! Students have been hard at work throughout the first half of the year and we’re so proud of the effort they’ve shown to their learning and some of the growth that will be shown in their semester reports.

Superstar of the week

This week's superstars of the week are Kimaylah Kaifa, Manshant Sandhu, Gurman Turka, Sophia Sepulveda Avila and Viyona Mehta! All 5 students competed in the Western Metropolitan Region Cross Country event on June 19th. The race was 2km for Grade 4’s and 3km for Grade 5/6 students. Although we didn’t quite make it through, all students gave it a red-hot go, and Tarneit Rise Primary School is SO proud of their achievement!

Well done to all these legends!

Please send in any sporting achievements that your children have achieved this year so that we can share them and celebrate them.

Preps, Grade One and Grade Two

The Preps have continued work dribbling a basketball with their hands. We’re seeing some great change of direction, and some students can even move at speed while maintaining control of their ball. We are now moving into opposed games to allow students to use these skills in game situations.Grade 1s and 2s have also focused on dribbling with their hands. We have seen some great improvement in their ability to change direction and move at speed in different opposed dribbling games. These skills are crucial in the game of basketball, as well as working on students' spatial awareness for a range of different Invasion Games.

Grade 3 and Grade 4

Grade 3’s and 4’s have continued their invasion game unit with a focus on team offence and creating goal scoring opportunities by passing to open teammates in soccer. Students were asked to advance into empty space and create a numerical advantage when their team is in possession. We have also explored moving diagonally or straight towards goal to help progress the ball forward, passing with the inside of the foot (instep) for control and shooting with our laces for power.

Grade 5 and Grade 6

The grade 5’s have continued with AFL in which we are seeing a great amount of improvement in the skills of handballing and the drop punt, as well as their ability to play the game and make good decisions on where and how to pass the ball and what spaces are best suited to receive the ball.

The grade 6’s have been playing awesome tag rugby where we have been able to see great improvement in their ability to create and attack space and defend dangerous space, as well as trick their opponents. We have had a lot of fun joining in their games and often found ourselves outplayed by their improved game sense and agility in what is a difficult invasion game to grasp.

Team of the week

Team of the Week is a way to showcase students who are showing the school values in PE across all areas. These students give their best efforts and support other students around them to be the best they can be.

This week's team is selected by Mr. Tivendale!
