Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families,

We come to the end of another busy and creative term in Performing Arts. Our team has been busy finalising assessments and Semester One reports, and are looking forward to seeing you all again in Term Three.

Our amazing Prep students are completing their term of music learning. They have had the opportunity to explore a range of different tuned and untuned percussion instruments including the glockenspiel and boomwhackers. Students practicing making sounds with these instruments that could match the sounds made by their singing voices when performing a song. Our preps have also been introduced to the role of the audience in Performing Arts and have been explicitly shown how to be a respectful and appreciative audience member.

Our wonderful Grade 1 and Grade 2 have had a great fortnight exploring percussion instruments in detail, including the correct methods and techniques for correctly playing glockenspiels and djembe drums. Students enjoyed playing along to various rhythms and showed creativity and collaboration in working with their classmates. It was noisy and lots of fun!

Our marvellous Grades 3 and 4 students completed and performed their class song compositions this fortnight. The compositions were a whole class effort, and all of the Performing Arts teachers loved seeing the end results of their classes’ hard work. The compositions had rapped verses and sung choruses, and through composing, rehearsing and performing students developed their skills in the musical elements of beat, rhythm, dynamics and articulation. Great job!

Our terrific Grade 5 and 6  have begun creating a soundscape composition. A soundscape is a collection of sounds that are organised and used to create the aural impression of a place, ie: a rainforest or busy city street. Grade 5s and 6s have been working in small groups to brainstorm sounds and experiment with a range of instruments including keyboards, glockenspiels and percussion to compose their soundscapes. They are also using graphic notation to record their work. We can’t wait to hear the finished product!

We’re so proud of all the students this term and hope you all have a happy and creative holiday.

See you in the Performing Arts room!
