Students read an Indigenous Dreamtime story 'How the frill necked lizard got its frills'.
Students used a small piece of bubble wrap to dip into earth coloured paint and print onto paper to create the scales of a lizard. The students used paint to create a background for their lizard.
Grades 1 and 2
The seasons of Summer and Spring came into the art room. Students read the story 'Sing Me The Summer' and created suns that have a variety of lines and patterns.
Students continued the season theme with a Springtime story. The students chose three different sized circles and cut these out. The circles were glued on top of each other. Developing the skills of lines and patterns, on each part of the circle black lines and patterns were drawn. The Spring flowers needed to be put into a vase which the students made by folding a piece of paper, drawing a line and cutting it out to reveal the shape of the vase.
Grades 3 and 4
Students discussed the art work by David Hockney called 'The Pool'. Students discussed what they like to do in the pool and the position and shape of their body in the water. Using a grey lead pencil, students drew their body and when they were happy with the shape, permanent black marker was used to go over the pencil lines. Oil pastels were used to colour in their body and bathers. Finally, white pastels were used to create water movement and a blue food dye wash was applied over the completed artwork.
Grades 5 and 6
Students completed their colourful 2D coral reefs using a modelling product called Magiclay.
Students thoroughly enjoyed using this medium for their artwork. Consideration needed to be made about the colour, patterns, line and texture in their compositions. Some students were happy with creating coral, while others included small sea animal
