Principal Report
Our school is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
At Boroondara Park PS we value the diversity of culture, ethnicity, and faith of all our students. We are proud of our diversity, and everyone is welcome at our school.
Celebrating the diversity of our community makes us stronger, kinder and more innovative. We are committed to making sure that students from all backgrounds feel accepted, supported and able to learn.
We teach all students according to our school values and teach the respectful relationships framework. This includes education around diversity and inclusion.
To achieve our values and aims, everyone at Boroondara Park PS plays an important role.
This term, we have reminded students of our values of respect, care, responsibility and inclusion and the importance of using these in everything we do.
To help us make Boroondara Park PS a place where everyone feels welcome, respected and supported, we encourage you to also speak to your child about these values, as well as the importance of:
For more information, please see Racism: talking with children and teens, Raising Children Network.
We expect families to also display our school values when dealing with other members of our school community.
We are currently developing information which will be added to our website and provided to the community about how we address and prevent racism.
With many conflicts happening throughout the world at the moment, please let us know if you and your family need support. Don't hesitate to speak with your child's class teacher and contact Shannon and myself to let us know how you are and what you might need.
At school we work to provide a predictable routine for our students, which will support them at times of crisis.
We have attached some information that might assist you to talk to children about war and conflict.
We have had a number of cases of influenza confirmed in the community. If your child is unwell, please keep them home.
If you are immune compromised, please look after yourself when coming up to school, you might like to take the precaution of wearing a mask.
Our school Review was finalised on June 16th. On the final review day, the panel reports back about what they had observed and understood about the school based on analysis of data, classroom visits and focus groups. They specifically work through the school goals and targets in the last four years and how the school has performed.
The Reviewer will now finalize a report which will be provided to the staff and School Council. Once this report is presented the school will develop a new Strategic plan for the next four years.
This plan will have a learning goal and a wellbeing goal. It will have clear targets and key improvement strategies for the school to work towards. We look forward to sharing it with the community once it is developed next term.
This year I have used and recommended the Raising Children Network to a number of families. The website is an Australian parenting website with a wealth of information.
The Raising Healthy Minds app is a free, personalised, pocket resource to help parents and carers raise confident, resilient children. Co-designed with parents and experts and funded by the Australian Government, Raising Healthy Minds aims to support children’s social and emotional wellbeing with evidence-based information.
You’ll find information on topics like dealing with worries and making friends, as well as ideas for day-to-day life, like creating family routines, looking after yourself as a parent, and building strong relationships.
The app offers a mix of quick-read articles, videos and animations aimed at parents and carers of children aged 0-12 years. You can tailor information to the age of your child and opt-in to receive helpful tips.
Raising Healthy Minds provides simple-to-use information at your fingertips with clear actions you can start today.
Download from Google Play or the App Store or go to raisingchildren.net.au/rhm to learn more and raise a healthy mind
The Balwyn High School Select Entry Accelerated Learning Program (SEAL) 2026 testing will take place on Monday August 18th. This program is open for all Year 6 students who have accepted a place at Balwyn High School in 2026.
The 2025 program currently has five BPPS students, they have told us the program is excellent. Please see details below for how to register for the SEAL selection test.
We are working with Department of Education build attendance at BPPS.
Did you know if your child is absent one day a fortnight that is equal to four weeks of a school year?
It is important to communicate to the school if your child is going to be away or if your child is sick. You can send a message via COMPASS to the class teacher and the school office.
Please let us know when your child is going to be absent. By letting the teacher know they can try to support your child with any assessments they may have missed.
This week we sent out information relating to an interpreter service you can use when calling the school. There is a simple step by step process to make a call to the school using a telephone interpreter.
Our website is currently being redeveloped, we hope to launch the new website leading into the end of this term. We will let you know when it is live.
Next term we will have Evan and Glen joining us to undertake school maintenance tasks each week. They will also be working in the yard sweeping pathways and trimming branches as needed.
We will also have Tess joining us to work in the gardens, she will be working on particular sections to rejuvenate garden beds.
We are excited to have them working with us to make BPPS shine.
New shade sails are currently being manufactured, they will be installed over the playgrounds in Area 1, 2 and 3. When we have the new Year 5/6 equipment installed, we will have new shade sails there as well.
Don't forget to fill in this form, it will only take a few minutes. Thank you to those who have already told us where they are from.
Thank you to those parents who have completed the induction and registration so they can volunteer at BPPS in 2025.
A reminder - All volunteers must undertake the induction and register to be involved in school activities.
