Careers and Pathways Update

It’s been a busy and exciting end to the term for the Careers and Pathways Team!

🏫 Year 10 Deakin University Excursion

📅 Wednesday 18 June

On Wednesday 18 June, all Year 10 students visited Deakin University to gain firsthand experience of university life. Students explored the campus and participated in four interactive workshops across the fields of Sports, Nursing, Law, and Psychology. A highlight of the day was hearing from former Highvale students, now studying at Deakin, who shared valuable insights about transitioning from high school to university and the importance of subject selection.

Here’s what some students had to say:

  • “I liked seeing different parts of the campus and what the classrooms and courses are like.”
  • “The workshops throughout the day were quite insightful and I learnt a lot.”
  • “The highlight of my day was the law workshop – I really enjoyed the mock trial activity.”
  • “Going to all the workshops gave me a better idea of what each course is like.”
  • “I enjoyed the panel discussion. It was very informative and interesting.”

📚 Subject Selection Expo

📅 Wednesday 2 July

We proudly hosted our first-ever Subject Selection Expo for students in Years 7 to 10. The expo brought the curriculum handbook to life, giving students the opportunity to explore subject offerings in greater depth and ask meaningful questions to help guide their decisions for 2026.

The day was a great success, with strong student engagement and curiosity. We encourage families to continue these important conversations over the holidays. Course handbooks are available on Compass under School Documentation.

We also held a Parent Information Session for families of Year 9 and 10 students on Monday 30 June. If you were unable to attend, the presentation slides have been posted on the Compass Newsfeed and are available on our Careers website.

🧠 Year 9 Morrisby Profiling

All Year 9 students completed their Morrisby profiling sessions on 30 April and 7 May. Morrisby is a comprehensive online career tool that helps students explore future pathways aligned with their interests and abilities. Following the assessments, students participated in one-on-one sessions with Morrisby-trained career practitioners to unpack their results and discuss potential directions for senior school and beyond.

🔍 What’s Ahead in Term 3?

Key priorities for Term 3 include:

  • Subject Selection – for students in Years 7 to 11
  • VTAC, SEAS, and Scholarship Applications – for Year 12 students
  • Careers Sessions – delivered through Focus Groups

We look forward to continuing to support students as they navigate their future pathways.

🌟 Highlighting a Highvale Alumni Success: Chelsea Puls

We are proud to share the success of one of our former students, Chelsea Puls, who is currently thriving in her studies at Richmond Institute.

Chelsea has been recognised as a standout student in her program and has already secured a position at Community Care Collective through her placement—an impressive achievement so early in the year.

The Richmond Institute recently featured Chelsea in an article where she reflects on her journey and experiences so far. Her story is a wonderful example of where hard work, passion, and the right pathway can lead.

Congratulations, Chelsea! We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished and look forward to seeing where your journey takes you next.
