Principal's Report

Evan MILLER
Principal
As we come to the end of Term 2, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been another successful term of learning, growth, and achievement at our college. Our students have once again demonstrated their commitment to learning, engagement in school life, and support for one another across a wide range of academic, co-curricular and wellbeing experiences.
This term has been filled with many highlights that have enriched the student experience across all year levels:
Our Year 7 students enjoyed an exciting and rewarding time at Camp Somers, forming new friendships and strengthening their connection to the Highvale community.
Our Year 9 students also had a memorable time on their camp to Portsea, with a program that encouraged teamwork, resilience and self-reflection.
Students in Years 7 to 12 have participated in interschool sport with great enthusiasm and success, proudly representing the college.
The re-launch of our House Cup has brought a renewed sense of fun and friendly competition across the school
Our Cyber Safety Project presentations helped equip our Year 7–10 students with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate our connected world safely and responsibly.
Both the Junior and Senior Winter Concerts were a showcase of our thriving music program and the talents of our students.
Other important events this term included the Year 10 exam period, the General Achievement Test (GAT) for students undertaking a VCE Unit 3/4 subject, Year 9 and 10 subject selection and VCE pathways evening, the Junior School Careers Expo, and the Morrisby Career Interviews for our Year 9 students. Our Senior School Careers Expo provided valuable insight and guidance for students planning their future pathways.
We also held an Emergency Evacuation Drill—an essential part of our safety and preparedness processes—and celebrated student-led initiatives including the Year 12 Pyjama Day and a successful Beyond Blue fundraiser led by our VM students.
In line with our Strategic Plan, this term has also seen continued professional learning for our Learning Area Leaders and Leadership Team through our work with educational consultant Vania Tiatto from CT-ED. This work focuses on Key Improvement Strategy 1b: redeveloping and documenting the school’s curriculum to better align with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0. The collaboration is already generating valuable insights and strategies as we work towards a more cohesive and future-focused curriculum that supports strong student learning outcomes.
Over the upcoming holiday break, a number of important facilities projects will be undertaken to further enhance our learning environment. The Community Centre, including the hall and theatre spaces, will undergo much-needed repairs. Tennis Courts 3 and 4 will be repaired, while Courts 1 and 2 will be upgraded with a new synthetic surface, creating a more versatile space for physical education classes.
We are also excited to be installing Vivi wireless display devices across the school, enabling seamless access to screens and projectors in classrooms to support engaging and collaborative teaching. In addition, our PA system will be upgraded to ensure announcements and bells are heard clearly across all areas of the school. These improvements will make a significant difference in supporting high-quality learning and daily operations at the college.
As we close the chapter on Term 2, I want to thank all our students, staff and families for their ongoing support and commitment to our school community. I wish everyone a safe, restful, and enjoyable break, and we look forward to welcoming students back for the start of Term 3.
