Successful Semester's Work
As we reach the end of the term, it’s a great time to pause and reflect on the achievements of our students and staff. Their dedication and progress across many areas have been outstanding, and it’s important that we take the time to celebrate these successes.
Semester reports will be available for download at the end of the term - please watch for a COMPASS notification. I encourage families to sit down with their child to review the report, celebrate the highlights, and identify areas for further growth. The work habits section is especially valuable, as strong behaviour, effort, and organisation consistently align with academic success.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated staff, who have worked incredibly hard throughout this first semester of the 2025 school year. Their efforts have ensured our students are supported to thrive and grow into capable, well-rounded young people. There is no greater reward than seeing our students give their best, achieve excellent results, and embody our core values: Respect, Responsibility, High Expectations, and Collaboration.
Stage 2 of the Yarrabing Secondary College building project has been funded
On the 21 May 2025, I received an email from the Minister of Education, Ben Carroll, announcing that the second, and final stage, of the Yarrabing Secondary College building project was funded in the recent 2025 Victorian State Budget.
In summary, Minister Carroll announced that as part of the 2025-26 State Budget, the Victorian Government is investing $1.5 billion to upgrade and modernise schools, including the funding for the next stage of construction at Yarrabing Secondary College. This funding will support the development of a learning neighbourhood, administration building, and sports oval, adding 650 student places.
Since the school opened in January 2024, it is not required to complete an Asset Management Plan. The Victorian School Building Authority and Department of Education staff will support the project’s delivery and educational goals.
This funding will allow the college facilities to be built between now and the start of the 2027 school year to is full planning.
It is certainly some excellent news for the college and something that will give all of us certainty as we move forward in becoming a very successful secondary school.
Curriculum Planning for 2026
Curriculum and staff planning for next year is well under way. Curriculum for both Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 has been notionally determined in order to help us in the recruitment process for 2026. The curriculum offered in Year 7 and 8 will be very similar to that being offered to Year 7 and Year 8 in 2025 and will include the introduction of a Language Other Than English (LOTE) as well as the introduction of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) to all year Levels. The Year 9 Curriculum will provide students will a choice of some elective subjects. The caveat of course being our ability to recruit to allow this diverse and rich curriculum to be offered.
I anticipate that our Year 9 students will be provided with a subject selection process in the middle of Term 3.
We also plan to advertise teaching positions and leadership positions from late June 2025 for appointment from the beginning of 2026.
Pre-Review Self Evaluation
We are well on the way to completing our Pre Review Self Evaluation report for our review on the 28th and 30th July. As part of the prereview feedback process, many College Community members (including Students, Parents, School Council members and College Staff ) were recently provided with the opportunity to complete a “two stars and a wish” survey.
The ‘two stars and a wish’ method is a structured way to provide feedback, often used in educational settings. It involves identifying two positive aspects (stars) and one suggestion for improvement (wish) about someone's work or performance. This approach is helpful for both giving and receiving feedback, encouraging reflection and self-assessment.
