Books to Go for Year 6 Students

The Primary School Library Leaders have been busy working on an exciting initiative to provide Year 6 students with great reading material for the holidays. Aptly named Books to Go, this project will give Year 6 students the chance to ‘order’ two books based on their reading preferences. The Library Leaders will then pack and deliver the requested books to each student. Each pack will also include a Holiday Reading Guide with recommendations for podcasts, other must-read titles and instructions for accessing the School’s audiobook library. A ‘speech bubble’ will also be included with the pack and students are encouraged to use this to record an inspiring quote from one of the books they read. The quotes will then be added to our ‘graffiti’ wall in the library to encourage others to read the book.

Parent Information Session - Learning Differences in Young People

Friday 27 June - 9am

We invite all parents and carers of Primary School children to join our Pedagogical Leaders, Katie Danswan and Emily Keeling, and Primary School Psychologist, Morgan Norris, to explore how we identify learning differences in young people. The session will be held in the Boa Vista Room (Meeting House) at 9.00am on Friday 27 June.

This information session aims to provide parents with general information about how learning differences are identified and supported within the school environment. We will explore classroom based assessments and when and why our Access and Inclusion Team may “dig deeper”. We'll touch on when investigations with allied health professionals may be recommended and explain the process of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).

Places are limited! Please register here to secure your spot.

Please note: This information session aims to provide general information regarding learning differences. We will not be able to provide individual management strategies for your child, however we can advise you of the next steps to take if you are seeking support or further information.

Wednesday 2 July

Children are required to wear appropriate and sturdy shoes/gumboots. Due to the nature of the activities we would suggest children wear warm layers of clothing. They will need to bring a change of clothes, as well as a warm coat/rain jacket. We will be eating afternoon tea at the site, so no second break lunch orders on this day please, as we will be unable to collect them before we go.  Please ensure that students have ample water to drink. Note that we do not require parent help for this excursion, thank you.

Students will participate in three service rotations involving activities that promote understanding, compassion, and the value of service to others. At 11.30am we will walk to Soundy Park for break time before we walk back to school, returning by 12.40pm.

Please ensure your child arrives at school on time so that we can depart promptly by 8.55am. Students require a packed lunch, drink bottle and snacks and should wear their sports uniform and comfortable walking shoes. Additionally, please pack a waterproof jacket in case of rain. The Salvation Army Citadel is a safe and welcoming environment for our students to engage in valuable learning experiences.
