Arriving at school on time

It was very important for children to arrive at school on time. We are seeing more and more students turning up to school after the bell has rung at 9am. Sometimes we are seeing students arrive at 9:40am. When this happens, the student has missed 40 minutes, of valuable and important learning time.

Here are some of the effects that arriving late to school has on your child.

Academic Impact:

When arriving late, students will fall behind in learning new material and struggle to keep up with classmates, potentially leading to lower grades and academic failure.

Social Isolation:

Arriving late to school can disrupt social interactions and connections with peers, leading to feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Mental Health:

Arriving late can be associated with poor mental health outcomes, including anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. This is generally because the class is settled when they arrive and anxiety really kicks in because they feel different as they are entering the room with all the students looking at them.

School Refusal:

In some cases, continually arriving late for school can escalate into school refusal, a more serious issue that may require professional support.

First Nations NAIDOC Art Workshop

On Thursday the 26th of June, Mr Murdoch and four first generation students went to an art workshop at the St Albans Community Centre. This was a celebration of NAIDOC week and was ran by the Koorie Education Support Officer for the Sunshine/Deer Park network, Lee-Anne Clarke. Our students were joined with students from Cairnlea Park Primary School and painted their own creations incorporating aboriginal symbols throughout their work.

They all did such an amazing job and their paintings will be displayed at Watergardens Shopping Centre from the 8th-20th of July.
