Physical Education Term 3
Amongst dodging rain and wind, we have also started the term with a little sunshine. Well rested after a break and full of energy, the students are ready for fun.
Preps are playing lots of co-operative games, learning to take turns and understanding why we need rules to make games work well. They will also be working on ball control and using a ball for specific purposes. A current favourite game is “Cat and Mouse”.
Year 1 and 2 are focusing on bat and ball skills this term. They have started with pat bouncing and using different parts of the bat to hit the ball. Students will explore hitting for distance and for accuracy and progress to various partner and team games to apply their skills. Some can even hit a ball up using the edge of their bat!
Year 3 and 4 are currently working on netball before exploring track and field and basketball later in the term. So far, we have practiced a chest pass, shoulder pass and bounce pass. Students have learned to use these passes for different reasons and are learning to move, stop, and pivot. This week we will learn about how netball is played and how positions are allocated. Netball is a wonderful game for gaining confidence in court based invasion games.
Year 5 and 6 are currently working on netball before exploring track and field and basketball later in the term. So far we have begun to refine a chest pass, shoulder pass and bounce pass. Students have learned to use these passes for different reasons and are learning to move, stop, and pivot. They have also been introduced to the rules of “stepping”, “contact”, and “obstruction”. This week we will learn about how the game of netball is played and how positions are allocated. Attack and defence strategies will also be explored.
