Year 3 News

This term, students in Year 3 have started exploring a new topic through our Respectful Relationships program - Problem Solving!

In our first lesson, we began by talking about what the word ‘problem’ means. Students shared their ideas and then learned that a problem is a situation, question or challenge that can cause confusion or difficulty – but it’s also something we can solve if we work together and put in effort!

To put our problem-solving skills to the test, we played a team game called ‘Knots.’ In this game, a group of eight students formed a circle, closed their eyes, and each held two other hands. When they opened their eyes, they had created one giant human knot!

The challenge? Work together to untangle the knot without letting go of anyone’s hands.

Through this activity, students discovered that solving problems takes teamwork, communication, patience and creative thinking.

Here are some quotes from our students:

“We had a lot of fun and we successfully untied our human knot!” - Calvin 3J

“We had a few separations, but, in the end, we got it right!” - Akith 3J

“It was fun but challenging!” - Olivia 3J

“It was funny when we had to crouch so that people could step over each other's arms. At one point, we were in such a knot that we were hugging each other!” - Dante 3J

Whenever you’re in a knot, you can always untie it. It’s like a metaphor for problems! – Vivaan 3CBB

We cooperated with each other! – Elisha 3CBB

Great job, Year 3s! We can’t wait to keep building these skills as we continue our Problem Solving topic this term.
