Year 6 Wellbeing

Year 6 Wellbeing
Throughout Term 3, our Year 6 students have been exploring the personal and social skills needed to support a successful transition to Year 7. Through class discussions, collaborative activities, role plays and real-life scenarios, students have developed strategies to become more confident, independent and resilient as they prepare for secondary school.
Our learning has focused on the school values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Resilience and Confidence, while encouraging students to reflect on their strengths, relationships and decision-making.
This Term, Students Have Learned About:
Who Am I Becoming? – identifying their strengths, recognising areas for growth and setting personal goals for Year 7.
Respect in New Environments – understanding how respectful behaviour helps create positive relationships and welcoming learning environments.
Responsibility and Independence – developing organisational skills, managing responsibilities and taking greater ownership of their learning.
Honesty and Trust – recognising how honesty builds trust and strengthens friendships and relationships.
Resilience – learning strategies to cope with challenges, learn from mistakes and develop a positive growth mindset.
Confidence – building the confidence to ask questions, participate in new experiences and step outside their comfort zones.
Friendship Changes – understanding that friendships may change during the transition to secondary school and learning how to build and maintain healthy relationships.
Managing Conflict – practising respectful communication, problem-solving and strategies for resolving disagreements calmly.
During each lesson, students engaged in discussions, reflected on real-life situations, and completed a range of activities to identify positive choices and behaviours. These activities encouraged students to think critically about how their actions and decisions impact themselves and others.
During the remaining weeks of the term, students will continue their learning by exploring peer pressure and decision-making, before reflecting on their personal growth and developing a Year 7 Action Plan to help them feel prepared and confident for the transition to secondary school.
How You Can Continue to Support Your Child
Families can continue supporting this learning by encouraging conversations about:
making responsible and respectful choices
managing friendships and challenges positively
developing independence and organisational skills
setting personal goals for Year 7
asking for help when needed and maintaining a positive mindset.
We have been impressed by the thoughtful discussions, maturity and engagement shown by our Year 6 students throughout the term. We look forward to continuing to support them as they prepare for the exciting transition to secondary school. Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Lorraine, Karen, Ken, Irena and April
