Book Week

Book Week with Jacqueline Harvey

As part of our Book Week celebrations, a group of our Year 5 and 6 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a special creative writing session with one of Australia’s most popular children’s authors, Jacqueline Harvey.

During this fun and interactive session, students explored the fundamentals of storytelling and discovered some of the techniques authors use to bring their ideas to life. They experimented with developing interesting characters, settings and plots, while also considering how a captivating opening can immediately hook a reader.

Students were encouraged to play with language, using rich vocabulary, descriptive phrases and literary devices to make their writing more engaging. They also used artworks as inspiration to generate ideas and create their own short pieces of writing.

Jacqueline Harvey is the author of more than 60 books, including the hugely popular Alice-MirandaClementine RoseKensy and Max and Willa and Woof series. Hearing directly from such an accomplished Australian author provided our students with a wonderful insight into the creative writing process.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our budding Year 5 and 6 writers to unleash their creativity, develop their storytelling skills and be inspired by a successful Australian author during Book Week.
