Advent: A Season of Hope and Anticipation
As the school year draws to a close and the holidays approach, we find ourselves in the beautiful season of Advent—a time of preparation, hope, and joyful anticipation. Derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming,” Advent invites us to ready our hearts for the celebration of Christmas and the coming of Christ into our lives.
Advent is marked by four weeks of reflection, each symbolised by the lighting of a candle on the Advent wreath. The candles represent hope, peace, joy, and love—values that prepare us for Christmas and remind us of Christ's presence in our daily lives. As we light each candle, we are called to pause and consider how we can embody these virtues in our actions and interactions.
In the hustle and bustle of preparing for the holidays, it’s easy to lose sight of the deeper meaning of this season. Advent encourages us to slow down and make room for the sacred:
As a school community, this season offers a unique opportunity to reflect on how we can live out the values of Advent in our relationships, classrooms, and beyond. How can we bring hope to someone who is struggling? How can we share the joy of the season with those who feel alone?
As we approach Christmas, let us remember the ultimate gift of love that God gave us through Jesus Christ. Let us open our hearts to the light of Christ and carry that light into the world.
On behalf of the school community, I wish you a joyful and blessed Christmas. May this holiday season be a time of renewal, peace, and togetherness for you and your loved ones. May the love of Christ fill your hearts and homes, and may the new year bring hope, joy, and endless opportunities to grow in faith and kindness.
Have a happy, safe, and blessed Christmas!
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” – Isaiah 9:2
