Out and About

Brushing Across Generations

On Friday, November 29 our Year 11 and 12

Art students took part in a special project with the Salisbury Lutheran Kindergarten, creating unique portraits of the children there.

Each student was paired with a kindergartener, spending time getting to know their young subject and drawing inspiration from their personality and energy.

The resulting portraits beautifully captured the children’s individuality and were displayed in a small but exciting exhibition for families and the community to enjoy.

The portraits became a gift on behalf of our students for the families.

This project not only celebrated the creativity of our students but also fostered meaningful connections between generations, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.

Katherine Obst Public Speaking Competition

The Katherine Obst Public Speaking Competition was an incredible opportunity that I had. For anyone who is in Year 7 this year, I would most definitely recommend you to get involved in this next year, as it can teach you skills about public speaking. These skills include maintaining eye contact, projecting your voice, and pacing your speaking appropriately. Not only was the competition itself fun, but writing the speech was very delightful too. This might appeal to some people who enjoy writing. All the speakers at the competition were very experienced. At the end of the day first place was Encounter College and second place was Concordia College. I would like to thank the adjudicators who took their time to judge and Concordia for hosting.

The Katherine Obst Public Speaking Competition was a great experience. The whole day was packed with lots of tasks, with one main goal, deliver a speech. There was a range of topics to be picked, and a few weeks prior allowing time to write a short speech on one we found interesting. We rode in the Endeavour bus, performed at Concordia College, ate lunch, and even got to make a pit stop on the way back.

I did the topic "Unlikely Duo", centering it around the brain and the heart. It was an amazing learning opportunity and supported a variety of skills, such as writing, reading and public speaking, to further foster and grow.
