Library

Thank you to all the students and parents who have supported the library throughout the year. As the school year comes to an end, I would like to share some of this year’s highlights.

  • Author visits: Our author visits with Louise Park, Adam Wallace and Shenelle Rose made reading and writing come alive and inspired students to write and illustrate stories in new ways.
  • Premiers Reading Challenge: The annual Premiers Reading Challenge was a huge success, with students reading a combined total of 13,030 books.
  • Book Week – This year’s theme was Reading is Magic and it was great to see so many students dress up and get involved in the day. Our Foundation colouring competition and LPPS Writing competition were also part of this wonderful week.
  • Foundation Grandparents Day 2024 - We are so thankful for all the lovely new books that were donated to our Library. This is a much-loved tradition at Langy Park.
  • Goodbye to Mrs Mowat - In Term 3 Kate Mowat finished up as our school librarian. Kate had been with us for over 10 years and made a huge impact in our library helping students find their love of reading, organising events, and making the library a welcoming space for all. We will miss her creativity and dedication. The enchanted tree will live on as her legacy at Langy Park.
  • Scholastic Book Club – We had 7 issues of our catalogue this year and we have had a great response. Our school has earned many valuable rewards from all the books ordered.

Acknowledgements

  • A special thank you to David and Barbara Isted, grandparents of James (Year 4) and Jaxon (Year 2). They kindly donate their time to cover all the new books that come into the library as well as repair all the books in our book hospital. Their wonderful work allows all the new books to get out onto the library shelves so quickly and it very much appreciated.
  • The 2024 library leaders: Chase, Seb, Lily R, Willow, Zoe and Bella, who have assisted the library in a variety of roles.

Finally, I would like to wish all students and their families a restful and enjoyable summer. I hope you find some great summer reads and I look forward to welcoming you back for another exciting year of reading in 2025!
