School Council Update: A Busy and Productive Year
The School Council has been hard at work over the past few months, focusing on a variety of projects to benefit our school community. Much of this work happens within subcommittees, where recommendations are developed and then brought to the main School Council meetings for discussion, approval, and action.
Grade 6 Tops and Consultation Process
As announced in the last newsletter, the Education and Policy Subcommittee has been carefully working on the design for the Grade 6 Senior Year tops since April. While it’s been a lengthy process, it’s vital to ensure that all stakeholders are consulted—especially when implementing such a significant change. This year, when the students decided on an Indigenous theme, consultation became even more crucial to respect and honour cultural perspectives.
Policy Reviews and Updates
One of our primary focuses has been updating school policies to reflect both DET guidelines and the needs of our school community. Here are some of the policies that have been reviewed and updated recently:
- Uniform Policy
- Mobile Devices Policy
- Communication with Staff Policy
- Complaints Policy
- SunSmart Policy
- Bullying Prevention Policy
- Therapy Dog Policies (x2)
- Child Safe Code of Conduct (reviewed annually)
- Volunteers Policy
- Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
- First Aid Policy
- Swimming Policy
- Visitors Policy
- Alcohol at School Events Policy
All these updated policies will be uploaded to the school website soon for easy access.
Environmentally Conscious Initiatives
We’re also excited to develop a plan to make our school more environmentally friendly. LPPS is now a donation partner for the Container Deposit Scheme—cha-ching! But we’re aiming higher, with plans to improve recycling, reduce waste through “nude food” initiatives, and further utilize the school Patch. The Patch has great potential, and we’re exploring ideas to make the most of it.
Buildings and Grounds: Planning for the Future
The Buildings and Grounds Subcommittee has been busy addressing day-to-day issues while also developing a five-year master plan. This plan outlines achievable steps to continually improve our school’s physical environment, ensuring it remains a safe, engaging, and comfortable space for our children.
During the Christmas break, a significant amount of maintenance will take place, including:
- Air conditioning servicing
- Carpet upgrades in high-priority areas
- Maintenance painting of high-use spaces
- Tree lopping
- Installation of new extraction fans in toilets
This is just a fraction of the work happening behind the scenes over summer to ensure everything is ready for the new year.
Finance Subcommittee: Supporting Every Step
Behind every project is our diligent Finance Subcommittee, ensuring that funds are allocated where and when they’re needed most.
Get Involved: Subcommittees and Tradie Network
Did you know you don’t need to be a member of the School Council to join a subcommittee? Parents and staff are always welcome to contribute ideas and get involved.
We’re particularly keen to connect with tradies in our school community. Whether you’re a carpenter, plumber, electrician, roofer, landscaper, or have expertise in another trade, we’d love to hear from you! Building a mutually beneficial relationship with our school families can make a huge difference. If you’re interested, share your details with us via https://forms.gle/cBA1ePHdw1pdzfAe6 so we can reach out when needed.
Thank you for your ongoing support—together, we’re making a lasting impact on our school community!
