Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année 圣诞快乐 shèngdàn kuàilè from the Languages Faculty
The Languages Faculty extends warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to another exciting year of language learning and cultural discovery in 2025!
Our Year 10 French students recently embarked on a délicieux journey to a Belgian chocolate café! They immersed themselves in the art of chocolate making while practising their French skills with a native chocolatier. From learning the history of Belgian chocolate to crafting their own sweet creations, it was an excursion filled with language, culture and bonheur!
On Monday our class went to Choc & Moi in Dee Why, where we were taught in French about the process of making chocolate, where it’s from and the different kinds. We then tried different kinds of chocolate - milk, white, dark, ruby and gold. Afterward, we observed how the chocolate was cooled and prepared for us to create our own designs. In pairs we worked together, one was making the chocolate design the other was decorating it. This experience was very fun and fascinating to learn about the process of chocolate and have the opportunity to make our own.

Meanwhile, Year 7 students studying French and Chinese participated in engaging incursions designed to deepen their understanding of the cultures and countries they are exploring in class. Through interactive workshops and activities, students discovered fascinating aspects of French and Chinese traditions and everyday life.
During an incursion, we learned about our teacher's background from Taiwan, including its earthquakes, infrastructure, and landscapes. We watched videos on Taiwan's earthquakes, especially the 921 earthquake and Taipei 101. The highlight was tasting Taiwanese snacks: 凤梨酥 (fènglí sū - pineapple pastry), 海苔米饼 (hǎitái mǐ bǐng - seaweed rice biscuit), and 冰淇淋 (bīngqílín brown sugar boba ice cream), all of which were delicious. Overall, it was an enjoyable and tasty experience. 再见 zàijiàn!
