As we close the door on another year, there is much to celebrate. And we have done so in word and deed in the past days. To acknowledge the wonderful year in classrooms, on the stage, in the pool, on the courts and oval, at camp sites and external venues, our students have realised the heights they can reach. We all share a deep sense of pride in these achievements.
As is our custom, the final edition of HouseNews comes primarily in pictorial form, representing a sample of the occasions we have enjoyed in this final stretch of the academic year.
We each have events that have a special meaning for our children, and families. I hope you have been witness to these. Once more College Performing Arts last Friday was presented before a packed Hall. This time, as a ticketed event, the Prefects Charity for Term 4, the Good Box, was the beneficiary; and I am delighted that along with the mufti day held two weeks ago, the Prefects have proudly collected in excess of $5,000. They have also asked for donations of new and pre-loved toys, and these have gradually grown in number around the Christmas Tree in the foyer, as the days passed. On behalf of the Prefects, I thank you for your support and generosity for those in our community who without the gifts collected from Pittwater House families, would have a difficult Christmas period.
And then we applaud the gentlemen of Grammar 10 in their Dance Off on Tuesday. Now in it's third year, the boys are to be highly commended for what is now a wonderful end of year tradition. Congratulations Morgan.
At year’s end, we farewell a number of Staff, those who have been with us on short term contracts, and those who have taken opportunities for change or further development of their careers. My communication this week introducing some of our new 2025 Staff complements those who are moving on. Whilst each of these members of Staff has given a wonderful depth of opportunity and guidance to all their students, and colleagues, it is always sad to farewell such valued colleagues. I pay tribute to the work of these fine members of our community and wish them every happiness and success. To David Cosentino, his lengthy time has provided colour and growth across the performing arts; he is returning to the Department of Education from whence he came. Isaac Smith is joining his family’s automotive business, whilst Carly Biddolph and Dr Carl Masens are moving to schools close to home. Promotional positions are being taken by Vaibhav Sharma in country NSW, and Lucy Eaton in Sydney, whilst several staff are considering other options: Megan Das, Cole Griffiths and Zoe Rawlinson and Ally Barnett who has had a wonderful 10 years with us. My sincere thanks to you all.
My hope for you all in the coming weeks of Christmas festivities and New Year opportunities, is focused on the special qualities that each family acknowledges at these times. Words of gratitude, hugs and loving relationships should not be felt just at Christmas time; I would hope that these weeks bring your family treasured times, whether you remain in Sydney or travel near or far.
I look forward to all the new year will bring for us all.
Importantly, stay safe, be gracious and thankful to all with whom you engage.
Merry Christmas to you all.
