A new year and new learning

Sending you a warm welcome to our 2025 school year. Hoping you had a restful break filled with a lot of laughter and stories to tell. When seeing the students this week it has been wonderful to hear about day trips, family visits, many pool or beach trips and even some overseas adventures!

I am very excited to enter into the role as wellbeing leader of St John's this year. I am proud of the many initatives in the student wellbeing area and look forward to working with you all to enhance each students social-emotional wellbeing, to build better outcomes for all.

Getting to Know You Meetings

Our Getting to Know You Meetings will be held Tuesday 11th February 1:30pm - 5:50pm (last appointment) and Wednesday 12th February 3:40pm - 4:50pm (last appointment).

To accommodate these times the students will be dismissed on Tuesday 11th February at 1:00pm.  Oshclub will be available for those families requiring out of school care. Please book online or contact them to book a spot.

The purpose of this initial meeting is for your child’s teacher to get to know your child and to discuss how we may partner together this year to maximize your child’s learning. We ask that all students attend with their parents to share their learning goals.

You will recieve a digital questionnaire, which we kindly ask you to fill it out to enhance our understanding of your child prior to our meeting. Please ensure the completion of the questionnaire for your child's teacher no later than Thursday, February 6th.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

As each student enters into new learning experiences, the St John's staff also explored new learning. We were very fortunate to have Jo-Ann Patrick from MACS visit us to begin our PBL refresher course. As an Education Excellence- Student Engagement and Learning Consultant – Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Jo-Ann comes with a wealth of experience to guide us on building a strong PBL framework at St John's.

What is PBL?

Jo-Ann shared with us an overview of PBL to enhance how we connect, teach and support the St John's students in behaviour expectations.

PBL is a whole-school approach to creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate in which all students can learn and develop. At a PBL school, teachers, administrators and family members work together to teach and support behaviour expectations. PBL is implemented to improve the behaviour of all students in all school settings. Every part of a PBL school, including classrooms, school gates and buses, are considered integral parts of the total learning environment. PBL schools create and teachers deliver instruction in a set of behaviour expectations and positively acknowledge students for those behaviours. All school personnel are responsible for knowing the behaviour expectations and providing consistent positive feedback to students.
