In the next few days, three digital consent forms will be shared with parents and carers in relation to student use of technology at St John's.
One Form is the Parent/Carer Google Consent Form. This form is required to create/maintain your child's Google Workspace for Education account. This is the primary platform teachers and students use to communicate and create work online. Access to and operation of Chromebooks also requires a Google Workspace for Education account. Please note both parents(where applicable) should read and give consent.
The next form wiill be the iPad/Chromebook Agreement Form so the school can loan your child an iPad (For Preps and Year 1s) or Chromebook (Yrs 2 to 6).
The final form is the Student Technology Code of Conduct. This outlines the school's expectations on how devices are to be used. Parents/carers are asked to read and discuss this with their child. Early next week, a hardcopy version of the Code of Conduct will be given to each student to sign.
To assist with coordinating the distribution of devices, parents are asked to complete these online forms by Friday, 7 February 2025.
All students will participate in the Inform and Empower Cybersafety programme this term. As part of this, all classes will participate in a live stream incursion (with their teacher) to establish safe and responsible use of digital devices. Inform and Empower are endorsed by the Australian Government's eSafety Commissioner as a Trusted eSafety Provider.
Here are links to the parent/carer tip sheets that explain the focus and suggest ways parents and carers can continue the discussion at home.
On Thursday, 20 of February at 7:30 (for 90 minutes), a webinar "Raising Kids in a Digital World" is on offer to all parents at St John's Heidelberg for free.
Martin and Carley will explore the topics... social media, online gaming, strengthening family communication, impacts of screen time, cyberbullying, managing devices at home, child and tween online trends, and explicit/adult content.
Here is a brief video explaining the webinar - click here to view.
On Friday, a notice will be shared with parents on nForma with the link to the registration page. If you are unavailable for this session, I recommend you still register, as you will receive a recording of the webinar that you can then watch at your convenience.
This is a reminder that St John's is no longer using Flexi Schools to communicate electronically with parents. We are now using the nForma for Parents App, which is also the app through which student reports will be shared electronically with parents.
For instructions on how to install the app, please refer to the previous newsletter... https://newsletters.naavi.com/i/MLrXvZN/issue-7/page/11
