Principal, Ms Alex Montgomery

Welcome to Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope all our students, staff, and families enjoyed a refreshing break and are ready for wonderful term ahead.
During the Staff Development Days (SDDs), staff engaged in a variety of professional learning activities aimed at enhancing our teaching practices and supporting student outcomes. Staff participated in workshops focused on High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), equipping them with strategies to identify and nurture the talents of all students. Additionally, staff took part in a workshop with the Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer (ACLO) about Aboriginal artefacts, deepening their understanding of Indigenous culture and perspectives. Our School Administration Officers (SAOs) also participated in senior first aid training, ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively in emergencies. Collaborative planning sessions allowed teachers to share resources and best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Anzac Day
ANZAC Day holds significant importance in Australia and New Zealand, marking the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) troops at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience displayed by those who served and currently serve in the military.
We were privileged to have several community leaders attend the ANZAC Dawn Service, paying tribute to the spirit of ANZAC.
We warmly invite all parents and carers to join us for our school’s ANZAC Day service on Friday, 2 May at 9:30am in the school hall.
Important Health Support Information for Parents
If your child has a medical condition that may require emergency attention, such as severe asthma, anaphylaxis, or serve medical needs it's essential for us to work together to create an individual health support plan. Our School Administration Officers (SAOs) will be in contact with families to discuss the development of this plan or update the current plan, which will be created in consultation with you, relevant school staff, and, if appropriate, your child. The plan will outline an emergency response and will be reviewed at least once a year, or whenever there are changes in your child's health needs. Additionally, as the Principal I can initiate a review of the plan whenever necessary.
Your cooperation is vital to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your child at school. If you have any questions or need to update your child's health information, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Occupational Services (OT) at Edgeworth Public School
We are pleased to announce that occupational therapists (OTs) from Newcastle University will be supporting students from our school in the early intervention space. They will be running small group and individual programs aimed at addressing developmental needs and enhancing learning outcomes. Additionally, a whole class program will begin in Kindergarten and Year 1, including 1/2J, starting in Week 2 this term. Baseline data assessments have already been completed to tailor the programs effectively.
The involvement of OTs is crucial, as they help children develop essential skills such as fine motor coordination, sensory processing, and social interactions. This early intervention not only benefits those who may be struggling but also enriches the learning experience for all children, fostering a supportive environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
Edgy Expects - Wearing Our School Uniform with Pride - Respect
Wearing the school uniform is an important aspect of our school culture, fostering a sense of belonging and unity among students. It promotes equality, reduces distractions, and helps students focus on their learning. We encourage all students to wear their uniform with pride. However, if students are not in the correct uniform, they will be provided with a uniform from our second-hand store to ensure they are appropriately dressed for school. Thank you for your support in upholding our school's uniform policy and creating a positive learning environment for everyone.
As part of our Edgy Expects fortnightly lessons, students will be learning the importance of wearing their school uniform.
Homework Policy Review
Our school has been reviewing its homework policy to ensure it aligns with best practices and supports our students' learning needs. We will be sharing the revised policy at the upcoming P&C meeting on Monday, 19 May. The Department of Education's homework policy emphasises the importance of meaningful and manageable tasks that encourage independent learning while considering the diverse needs of students.
Formal homework will commence in Week 5 of this term, providing an opportunity for students to reinforce their classroom learning and develop essential study habits. We aim to strike a balance between parent expectations and the well-being of our children, ensuring that homework supports their educational journey without overwhelming them. We encourage parents and carers to attend the P&C meeting to discuss the policy and share their insights. Your involvement is vital as we work together to enhance our students' educational experience.
