Celebrating National Reconciliation Week 27 May 3 June and National Sorry Day Monday 26 May
As we approach National Reconciliation Week (NRW), our school community is invited to reflect on the importance of reconciliation in Australia. This year's theme, "Bridging Now to Next," encourages us to connect past, present, and future, fostering growth and unity. Created by Kalkadoon artist Bree Buttenshaw, the theme artwork symbolises resilience and renewal through native plants.
NRW, held annually from 27 May to 3 June, marks significant milestones in our reconciliation journey, including the 1967 referendum and the Mabo decision. It is a time for all Australians to strengthen respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We encourage everyone to participate in activities that honour these connections and to engage with resources available in multiple languages. More information about NRW and Sorry Day will be shared with families. Let us walk together towards a more united and respectful nation.
Please join us for our Reconciliation Week 2025 assembly on Tuesday 27 May in the gym.
Student free day Tuesday 10 June
Our next student free day is scheduled for Tuesday 10 June where staff will be working with Numeracy Coach Karly Hefferan on effective learning in Mathematics.
Literacy Coach Jodie Cunningham
Last year and this year we have been working with the Literacy Guarantee Unit team to help us to improve student reading in our school. The literacy coach working with our teachers is Jodie Cunningham. You might see Jodie working alongside junior primary teachers in the daily phonics lesson, modelling lessons or working with students. If you have any questions about this work, please speak with Chris Stepien.
End of term 1 student challenge
At the end of last term I encouraged students to let me know
What are the best things about Woodville Gardens School?
What would make Woodville Gardens School even better?
Thank you to those students who have written me a letter or created some art work in response to the questions.
Please keep the responses coming in!
