Foundation Unit

This fortnight, students have been excited to learn more letters and sounds and practice applying them when reading text. Students have begun looking at ch, th, and sh digraphs, and finding them in texts and applying them in writing.

In Reading, students have continued to practice strategies to support them when reading unknown words. Students have been skipping the words and reading on. They then need to reread the sentence to see if they can work out the unknown word.

In Writing, students have continued to work on recalling facts from a text and writing about these facts in our own words. Students have been reading the ‘Encyclopedia of Dangerous Animals’ and have been sharing why we should not mess with these animals.

In Maths, we have explored our new topic of part-part whole. This is when students investigate different ways to make a number. For example the number 10, students discovered 6 and 4 makes 10, and 5 plus 4 plus1 makes 10 and 5 and 5 makes 10.

In Inquiry, students partook in our Wild Action incursion. They were able to see and touch native Australian animals such a lace monitor, crocodile, mountain pygmy possum, kangaroo and much more.
