Year -1/2 Unit

The weeks are flying by and the mornings are getting frostier! It’s been a busy and productive time in Year 1 and 2, with lots of learning and assessment taking place as we move towards report writing.

In Literacy, we’ve been working on our comprehension skills to help us better understand what we read. Students have been learning how to identify important information in non-fiction texts and how to use features like the contents and index pages to locate facts quickly. This ties in beautifully with our writing, where we’ve been exploring the features and structure of information reports. Students are currently researching a planet of their choice in preparation for writing their own report.

In Maths, we’ve been focusing on addition strategies such as doubles, near doubles, part-part-whole, and bridging to ten. Students have been actively engaged in hands-on activities and games that support their number fluency and mental maths strategies.

Our Inquiry topic on Space continues to spark curiosity and excitement. Students have loved learning about the phases of the moon - thank you for supporting them in completing their moon diaries at home. This week, we explored the relationship between the Earth, Sun, and Moon, and made a rotating model to show how they move in space.

Thank you for your continued support!
