Swimming
Over the last two weeks our Year 4 and Year 3 students have participated in our Aqua Awareness program at the Kyneton Aquatic Centre. Next week our Year 5/6 students will commence their program. This program is run as part of a Victorian Government initiative to help ensure children reach a proficiency level in swimming to reduce the number of drownings in Victoria. Thank you to our teaching staff, Sue Turner and the parent helpers who have volunteered to support this week long activity.
Building and Library Fund
Each year families make tax deductible voluntary contributions to our Building and Library Funds and I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the community for this. Without this funding our recent installation of reverse cycle heating and cooling units would not have been possible. Not all spaces have received units yet, but we are looking to continue to roll these out over the next few years.
Attitudes to School Survey
Each year students in Year 4-6 are invited to participate in our Attitudes to School Survey, the information provided in the survey helps us to gain feedback from our students about their experiences at school and allows us to plan for school improvement. The survey will be opening soon and parents in Year 4-6 will receive information next week.
Sporting Updates
Last Friday several of our Year 3-6 students participated in the Goldfields Division Cross Country in Castlemaine. Five of our students will now progress to the Loddon Mallee Region event next Tuesday 27th May. We wish them all the best.
Our Year 5/6 students braved a frosty morning on Tuesday to head out to Romsey to compete in the CDSSA Winter sports competition. The students enjoyed their day out competing against other schools in Football, Softball and Netball. Congratulations to our girls softball team who have progressed through to the next level.
Foundation 2026 Enrolment
Last Wednesday night we hosted our Information Evening for a group of prospective Foundation parents for 2026 enrolment. The evening was supported by our Foundation staff, Libby Cannon and Bree Smith, as well as Mark Condon, Kylie Minchew and Tim Bates (School Council President). We are continuing to run tours on a fortnightly basis for the next few weeks. If you have a child commencing in Foundation next year please contact the office so enrolment forms can be provided. If you know of anyone who is looking to enroll their child next year please encourage them to make contact with the school or attend one of our upcoming tours.
Staff Professional Learning
Staff at Woodend PS regularly participate in professional learning not just on curriculum days but throughout the year. Last night our teachers continued the work they began at the beginning of the year, looking at reading instruction in our school. Some of our staff even utilised our newly developed memorial garden as a learning space.
