Performing Arts
Our students have been busy exploring the exciting world of performing arts – music, drama, and dance!
- Prep students have been little actors in the making! They've been having fun using their voices, making silly faces, and using their bodies to show different feelings. This is helping them become amazing storytellers!
- Grade 1 and 2 students are becoming cultural detectives! They are learning all about special celebrations from around the world that they've chosen. They're discovering how music, dance, and drama are used to make these celebrations even more special and meaningful.
- Grade 3 and 4 students are continuing their journey as storytellers. They are using dance, drama, and music to bring stories to life. A big part of their learning is focusing on how Indigenous stories are shared through these powerful art forms.
- Grade 5 and 6 students are putting the finishing touches on their group projects. They've been researching and learning all about how Asian cultures use drama, dance, and music to tell their stories and celebrate important events.
And guess what? All our students have started practicing for our upcoming school concert! It's going to be a fantastic show! Keep an eye on XUNO for more details about the concert – you won't want to miss it!
Physical Education
On Wednesday, May 7th, a squad of 38 students represented our school at the District Cross Country event at Toomuc Reserve, Pakenham. Our 9/10 year olds ran in a 2km race, whilst our 11 year olds and 12/13 year olds ran in a 3km race. Fortunately, the weather was cooler and more typical of that for this time of year and the light rain also helped to keep our runners cool. Students who finished in the top 10 in each race qualified for the Division Cross Country event. I am very pleased to say that we had three runners finish in the top ten, with several others finishing just outside. I was very proud of the efforts of all our students, as they all tried their very best and exhibited good behaviour during the day. Congratulations to you all, especially Patrick B., who received a medal for finishing in third place in the 11 year old boys event; Livsharan S., who finished in 9th place in the 11 year old boys event; and Jackson V., who finished in 5th place in the 12/13 year old boys event.
ART
In Prep we have practised our cutting skills, sometimes for the first time, to cut out and colour bird feeders that turned out very well. After they were displayed in the Artroom many students from other grades were asking when it was their turn to make birdfeeders.
The grades 1 and 2 have been creating 'rugs' on paper. They practised a variety of lines with different materials (colour pencil, texters, oil pastels, glue lines with thread stuck onto them) They also created frays by threading a few lengths of yarn through a punch hole and then knotting them. The students were fully immersed in this artwork, but one or two of them took it to a different level and produced amazing artwork while totally forgetting about their surroundings.
In year 3 and 4 we completed an artwork called 'Cultural jars'. Students were asked to make a drawing of items, festivals or costumes that are important in the culture of their families. These items were to 'fall' to the bottom of a glass jar. This meant the students needed to overlap shapes. This has been very tricky to do, but the end results are stunning.
The grade 5 and 6s have started making 'candy wrappers'. They needed to select a part of a lolly wrapper with a viewfinder and then practise copying that image onto a much larger square shaped paper. They have practised observation skills, composition, lines and shapes. These two works are coming along nicely.
