Foundation News

This term, students have been learning to read decodable books, which use the sounds that we have learnt. We have also been listening to our teachers read high-quality picture story books that help us build our background knowledge and learn about what makes a good story. 

Ways you can support your child learn to read at home: 

• Read your child’s take home reader with them and help them with any mistakes
• Log on to Decodable Readers (logins in their readers/homework books) and read or listen to a book
• Help your child use Reading Eggs (especially the Fast Phonics section)

On Wednesday the 7th of May, the grade prep and 1/2 cohorts were lucky enough to be involved in a Responsible Pet Ownership Incursion at Pakenham Hills Primary School. The day was very informative, with students learning how to take care of their pet's wellbeing through learning about the food they eat, toys they like, exercise they can do and safety tips for approaching animals in the community. Students were also involved in a role play, whereby they acted out the safety tips they had been taught. There were a select few lucky students who got to pat the beautiful golden retriever 'Ranger' who was a very welcomed guest on the day. It was a fantastic experience!

This term our students have been busy developing their narrative writing skills by crafting creative stories with clear beginnings, middles, and endings. In science, they’ve enjoyed a hands-on project of growing a bean from seed, observing each stage of its growth. In math, they’ve been exploring fractions through fun, interactive activities that help them understand parts of a whole. One of the highlights has been making Fairybread fractions! We are about to start learning some new sporting skills in games of footy, netball, Tball and tennis where the students can develop their team work skills.
