Year 5 Camp

During the school camp, we did a lot of fun activities. My favourite moment at school camp was when I did the flying fox. All my group mates did the activity. It was my favourite because the feeling of getting over the lake was a breathtaking experience!

During the camp, I learned and became good at knot‑tying. We used it during raft building and bush craft. This is useful even in everyday life.

Me and my campmates worked together to build the raft and shelter. I learned that working together can make the work easier, faster, and more fun! The camp helped me grow to be more independent and confident to try and explore new things.

To all Grade 5's that will go to camp next year, I would advise you to try and experience all the activities at camp. Don’t be afraid to try new things—it’s the only way to have an amazing experience. Enjoy and have fun with your campmates!

Camp was a fantastic experience that I will never forget because I learnt so many new skills and lessons. I learnt how to canoe and it was one of my favourite activities. The canoe could only fit 3 people, so I went with 2 of my friends. Rowing the canoe was fun but exhausting! I also learnt how to tie different knots, like the figure eight, the clove hitch and the barrel knot, but it was a quite difficult. I also learnt what Orienteering meant. Orienteering is basically mapping. I had to map my way down and up steep hills to find numbers. Once I found the number, I had to stamp my slip of paper as proof that I found the number. It was fun and interesting. My favourite skill I learnt was canoeing. I would love to learn more skills next camp!

My experience at camp on the flying fox was very fun because I was safely strapped in. I felt a bit scared at first but when I ran off the platform and was able to let go of the rope, I felt very free. It was also nice because the view of the canoeing lake was very pretty. Camp was a good experience!
