Principal News

Tandy Johnson

Our campers departed on Wednesday morning ready for three days of fun together. Forest Edge is one of my favourite camps that we attend so I feel a little disappointed not to be down there with the students and teachers. I know they will come back to you and talk about the wonderful experience of camp once again.

Assembly

We are pleased to say that we have come up with a plan to return assemblies to Friday afternoons whilst remaining sun safe all year round. Your children may have shared with you that we performed a ‘comfort test’ with all students assembled in the atrium area. It was a success and still left sufficient room for families to attend assembly to see students presenting items and receiving awards.

Commencing next Friday May 9th, we will return to assemblies on Fridays on the assembly court on days when the UV is low. They will be commencing at 3:00pm sharp.

If on a Friday at 2:30pm the UV is above 3, we will move our assembly into the atrium where there is additional sun protection. We also expect to be able to move more assemblies into the atrium on drizzly days in the colder months as the ground should be dry and there will be shelter from the drizzle. This will increase the number of whole school assemblies. We understand that students feel excited to receive awards or recognition in front of the whole school rather than over the PA system in classrooms, so we look forward to more outdoor assemblies in 2025.

Movie Night

The PFA have been very busy organising everything for our under the stars movie night being held on May 9th.  It will be a fun family night that is being subsidised by the funds that the PFA raised in 2024. You can book: https://www.trybooking.com/DBHWF

Kinder Story time

Next Monday we are holding our first kinder story time for Foundation 2026 students. The session will start at 2:40 pm and run until 3:20pm. I will be sharing one of our favourite books with the children and following up with a fun activity that children will complete with parent and teacher assistance.

If you are intending on enrolling your child for Foundation in 2026 please inform the office as soon as possible to assist us with our planning for 2026.

Leadership Update

Our Assistant Principal Stephen Hayes will be taking long service leave for the remainder of Term 2 and we wish him a lovely time during his break. We look forward to seeing him back in Term 3. Shelley Gunn and I will continue to work together to lead the school for the remainder of Term 2.

School uniform consultation

We are currently collating the feedback from the community about a possible uniform change, and we will be sharing the decision following our next school council meeting to be held on May 15th. We will not delay in communicating the decision as we know that families are eagerly waiting to hear the decision.

Happy Friday everyone and hope you have a great weekend!
