Year 7s at the National Little League Championships 2025
Huge congratulations are to be awarded to Year 7 students Sonny Rowland (7.7), Harrison Smith (7.3), and Jacob Murphy (7.6), all from the Class of 2030, who will be representing W.A at the upcoming National Little League Baseball Championships in Blacktown, NSW.
If the team is successful and become the Australian Champions, they will then travel and compete in the World Series Little League Baseball Championships held in Pennsylvania USA in August 2025. This is a great achievement for these young men and the whole of the Class of 2030 at TC will be cheering them on from Perth! Congratulations, boys!
A Promising Start to a Challenging Round!
This week, Round 3 of the WADL Schools Debating Competition started with the first of the three impromptu rounds of the season.
For WADL, impromptu round topics are released one hour before the start of each debate, with students having to brainstorm and write their speeches as a team within the hour – with no help from teachers, parents, Google, AI or any form of technology, bar a trusty dictionary.
The Trinity College Novice Team was comprised of 3 first timer speakers – Cassius McGovern (7.7), Oscar Brockett (7.3) and Oscar Chandler (7.7) – who were ably supported with their research and planning by reserve debater Javan Leung (8.7). Taking on Scotch 2 and debating in the Negative, the boys had to plan and prepare their speeches on the topic: Assuming feasibility, this house would implement Animal Vote Technology. Despite a rather challenging topic, the boys came up with some great points and worked hard to present those clearly, offering rebuttals where required. While we didn’t come away with a win, it was certainly a promising start to these more challenging, yet exciting rounds and we look forward to more in the next round.
Later that evening, the Trinity College Junior Team delivered a strong performance in their debate against opponents from MLC 8. Featuring debaters Matteo Redolatti (9.3),Thomas Batten (9.7), Fred Brockett (9.1) and reserve Sean Shanahan (9.7), both teams debated on the topic: This house would force politicians to rely upon public services during their time in office (e.g. public transport, public housing, public education). Given the recent election on May 3rd, this was certainly a very relevant and ‘hot’ topic and the boys presented strong arguments on why politicians should walk in the shoes of the people they represent and ultimately came away with the win!
Well done to both teams on a strong start to a challenging Round 3!
