Year 9 News

Term three has begun with two engaging extra-curricular activities and there are more to follow! Students travelled to Lardner Park for the Job Skills Expo on Tuesday 23rd July, continuing their involvement in our 2024 Careers Program. We hope students’ strong interest shown during the visit found its way home.
Brainstorm Productions
Brainstorm Productions have performed for us each year, tackling tough teenage and community issues. Year 9 enjoyed the opportunity to pair with Year 8 for ‘Sticks and Stones’ on Tuesday 30th July. The show addressed bullying, harassment and aggression at school, at home and online. Two energetic performers explored the influence of peers, family, social media, YouTube and video games on attitudes and behaviour. They demonstrated the role of the fight/flight response and how this energy can be turned into positive decisions.
Gippsland Tech School
On Wednesday 14th August the Gippsland Tech School will explore Film, Television and Online Platforms which are filled with careers for skilled, creative and adaptable people, who work both in front of the camera and behind. Technology will enable students to create short films during their visit. This is open to all Year 9 students on Compass.
On Thursday 5th September, Future Transport is the theme of the day at Gippsland Tech School. Electric hoverbikes, transport pods, advanced electric and hydrogen engines, magnetic rails and hyper train tubes. Imagine the potential just around the corner and the implications for climate change, traffic flow and employment! Students are encouraged to register on Compass when it opens
Melbourne Discovery Camp
The Year 9 Melbourne Discovery Camp is also fast approaching with 60+ students attending, that’s more than 75% of our year level! Thanks to Year 10s who have shared their 2023 learning experiences with Year 9 students. All information is now confirmed and should have travelled home, in preparation for departure on Monday 19th August & returning Friday 23rd August.
Students must have shown a positive attitude to learning, trust, responsibility and respect to attend this wonderful camp. Contact will be made with home up to Friday 16th August if the school has any concerns about a student participating in the camp.
