Armidale Diocesan Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to the following students who competed at the Armidale Diocesan Athletics Carnival last Friday the 9th August; April Collins, Andy Watson, Sophia Nugent, Felicity Adams, Rosemary Wright, Peyton McBain, Jimmy Chard, Matt Pietsch, Charlotte Neville, Tilly Gray, Brooke Graham, Maggie Doust, Charlie Schalk, Chase Gelhaar, Karter Jones, Ivy Watson, Matilda Schalk, Isaac O’Kane, Sam Stephens, Brooke Halloran and Isobel Brummell.
I commend these students on their sportsmanship and effort at this carnival. The enthusiasm and support they had for each other as they competed in their events demonstrated the strong sense of camaraderie we have at St Joseph’s School. Well done to you all!
Congratulations to Charlotte Neville who won her 800m and 1500m event. She timed her runs perfectly so that she had plenty of energy left to finish these runs convincingly. Brooke Graham demonstrated her amazing power as she won her Shot Put and came second in Discus. Sophia Nugent ran a strong race in the 1500m event to gain third place among some talented long distance runners. These three students have qualified for the Polding Athletics Carnival held in Glendale on the 13th September. We wish these girls all the best.
School Sport
Starting today, our students will be participating in Netball clinics with Pia Thornett. We will have 5 sessions during our sports time learning all about the game of Netball. We look forward to having Pia visit our school and warmly welcome her to St Joseph's.
Netball - Glen Innes School’s Cup
On Tuesday the 13th August, many of our Stage 2 and 3 students attended the Glen Innes Primary Schools Cup. 5 social teams and 2 competitive teams participated at the carnival against teams from Glen Innes Primary School.
Many of our students had never played netball until Tuesday and by the smiles on their faces, it was evident that they all enjoyed their day. Congratulations to the Blue team coached by Kristen Bailey and Joanne Wright who were undefeated all day. This very capable team consisting of Andy Watson, April Collins Zoe McAllister, Jimmy Chard, Claire Bailey, Sam Barratt, Harriet Van der Waal, Rosemary Wright and Josh Pietsch demonstrated a range of outstanding netball skills which has earned them a spot at the Primary Schools Cup Regional Finals held in Tamworth on Wednesday the 25th September. Well done to these students!
Thank you to the teachers, Katie McMeniman, Tracey Condrick, Sarah Smith, Michelle Tarrant and Karen Fletcher who were busy all day organising our students on and off the court. And I would like to extend a massive thank you to our parents; Kristen Bailey, Melissa Key, Narelle Pietsch and Joanne Wright who assisted with looking after teams to ensure our students had an enjoyable day. We are truly grateful for all your help!
With the terrible weather on Tuesday, this day almost did not go ahead. However, thanks to the generosity of our local Glen Innes Netball Club, they covered the costs of hiring the courts to allow us to play indoors all day. This is a huge act of kindness by the committee and our school is extremely grateful for making this happen.
If your child really enjoyed playing on Tuesday, there is a mixed Fast Five netball competition which runs from the 4th September to the 13th November at the Indoor Netball courts.. This comp ran last year and was a huge success. Scan the QR code below to register your child or contact Kristen Bailey for more information.
