Devotion, From the Principal, Prayer Families & Birthdays
DEVOTION
At school worship we have been focussing on Jesus words, ‘I am the bread of life’ (John 6:35). What do these words mean? Jesus was speaking to a large and hungry crowd. He had already fed them with physical bread but they were hungry for more. They kept following him in search of more food, more miracles and more answers. They want to know how Jesus was doing such amazing things.
My brothers and I used to complain to our parents that we were hungry, even if we had just eaten a large meal. ‘Is there any more? Can we have dessert? We are still hungry!’ Does that sound familiar? My parents would sometimes find something or tell us to check the fridge or pantry. My dad used to say, ‘If you’re still hungry, have a piece of toast.’ We knew that was his final offer.
The crowd who follow Jesus are hungry but not just for food. They come to him in search of miracles, meaning and direction. They come to him because the 'bread’ of this world has failed to satisfy them. They are looking for something deeper and more long lasting, a kind of bread without a used by date.
Jesus claims to be just that, ‘the bread of life.’ He reminds us that God cares for our bodies, but also our hearts, minds and souls. At Living Waters, we allow time and space to feed on the ‘bread of life,’ through devotions and worship times. We learn from the Bible and the life of Jesus. We also respond to this knowledge by showing love and respect to each other, body, heart, mind and soul.

NAPLAN results were sent home today.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.
As students progress through their school years, it is important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress. NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.
For some students at our school that one day in time test has not accurately represented their ability. The test was also over 4 months ago now and a lot of learning has taken place since. Our literacy data shows much improvement in the first six months of this year, with 45 students receiving literacy awards at our end of term assembly. If you have a question regarding your child’s NAPLAN results, please contact your child’s class teacher.
