Year 5/6 Learning Expo

On Friday, July 19th, our Year 5 / 6 students presented their work based on their Inquiry Topic, ‘Multiculturalism in Australia Expo’. It was wonderful to see so many parents and students from other levels looking at the quality work produced by our Senior Students.

Congratulations to the Year 5 / 6 students and their teachers.

Statewide Principal's Conference

Yesterday I attended the Victorian Government Schools Principal’s Conference. The theme for the conference was: Leading together: Inspire, Learn, Network.

This was a very successful day, as we were able to

  • hear from renowned educators about collaborative leadership
  • participate in innovative workshops
  • learn, reflect, and network with other principals and assistant principals.

2024 Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey

The 2024 Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey will be available to complete online from Monday, 29 July to Friday, 30 August 2024. The survey seeks feedback on school climate, community engagement in learning and teaching practices for student engagement and learning outcomes.

Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. We are proud of our school's achievements,  but we also believe in maintaining a growth mindset and striving for continual improvement.

The survey link will be available to parents, caregivers, and guardians from Monday, July 29th, and shared via COMPASS. Our school is eager to have as many families complete this survey as possible. Please keep your eye out for the link.

To date we have had a 7% response rate. We would like this figure to be much higher.

Staffing News

At the end of Term Three, we will bid farewell to Denise Holmes, our Camp Australia Out of School Hours (OSHC) Coordinator. Denise has been working at Camelot Rise PS since 2014 and has played a significant role in developing and expanding our excellent Out of School Hours Care Program. Due to her dedication and expertise, Denise has successfully guided this service through numerous quality review processes, consistently delivering excellent results.

Denise’s OSHC journey began in 1997 as an assistant at Eastwood Primary School. Five years later she completed her Diploma in Community Services in OSHC and became a coordinator. Denise joined Camelot Rise in 2014 and has been an integral part of our OSHC team. She has helped our service grow into the wonderful program it is today.

Denise will be replaced by Allie Bentincontri. Allie worked at our program during the last school holiday period and has already met many of the students and families. We look forward to officially welcoming Allie to Camelot Rise Primary School during the Term Three Holiday Program.

Our staff will farewell Denise at a special morning tea on Friday, 13th September, and Denise will attend the school assembly on this day to say farewell to the students, parents and staff.

The entire Camelot Rise Primary School community will miss Denise, and we thank her for her many years of dedication and care for the students, parents and staff at Camelot Rise Primary School. We wish Denise all the best for the future and hope to see her again.

School Wide Positive Behaviors (SWPBS)

As part of our current Strategic Plan, we will continue to implement our School Wide Positive Behavior Program. This program will bolster the wonderful well-being programs of Camelot Rise Primary School. With a view to improving student confidence, resilience, self-regulation and peer connections, our SWPBS team have been working on several initiatives to further bolster the well-being of students, staff and parents at CRPS. These include but are not limited to;

  • Respectful Relationships Implementation – Capabilities
  • Resilience Project
  • Buddies Reform
  • Tiered Intervention Framework- Student, Parent and Teachers
  • School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Framework
  • Alignment with vision, values, learning dispositions and actions.

School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) is a framework for creating safe and orderly learning environments in schools while improving the social-emotional outcomes for students. It is a proactive approach that relies on research-based practices, including developing clear behavioural expectations, teaching these expectations, acknowledging appropriate behaviour, consistently correcting inappropriate behaviour, and using behavioural data to systematically solve problems.

The School-wide positive behavior support (SWPBS) framework aims to:

  • bring together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures.
  • assist schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural, and academic outcomes for children and young people.

Students and staff benefit from:

  • increased respectful and positive behaviour
  • increased time focused on instruction
  • improved social-emotional wellbeing
  • positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
  • increased adoption of evidence-based instructional practices
  • a predictable learning environment with improved perceptions of safety and increased attendance.

Our acceptance into this program is another way that we are supporting our students to be the best they can be. It is also a further demonstration of our commitment to our improvement agenda and alignment of Student Wellbeing and learning that exists in the Department of Education's revised Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO 2.0).

'We are Learning Boards'

Each term, teachers carefully plan what the students will be learning across all curriculum areas for the upcoming term. This is based on the Victorian Curriculum, which incorporates the Australian Curriculum and reflects Victorian priorities and

standards. The Victorian Curriculum F–10 sets out what every student should learn during their first eleven years of schooling. The curriculum is the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for life-long learning, social development and active and informed citizenship.

Our staff carefully plan the content of what is taught, based on students’ learning needs, their prior knowledge and student interests. The planning documents our teachers produce form part of our ‘We are Learning’ Board that is displayed in the foyer of our school.

We invite parents to look at our 'We are Learning' board, which clearly articulates exactly what is being taught in all classes and specialist classes this term. As a parent, it is invaluable to know what is taught at school so you can assist and support your child/children at home. We encourage all parents to look at this board and see what exciting learning adventures your child has to look forward to this term. Thank you to all the teachers for the amazing amount of work they have put into this display!

‘We are Learning’ documents will also be sent out to all families via Compass by the end of Week Two of each term.
