There has been plenty going on in the NCTTC as we wrapped up the final week of Term 2 and kicked off Term 3. With our VET students finishing up in mid-November, they are busy working through Units of Competency and various assessments.

VET Cookery

At the end of Term 2, the VET Cookery class headed out for a local excursion, which provided insight into the back and front of house operations at a number of local food and hospitality businesses. The class visited the Charlton Bakery where they were provided with a talk from Paul Phillips, our local baker. They also spent time at the East Charlton Hotel and Cricket Club Hotel, where Greg Towers gave an insight into the hospitality industry and the operations of his businesses. The students were given a ‘sneak peek’ into the plans for the Cricket Club kitchen and checked out some of the new and impressive equipment which will form the refurbishment of the kitchen space. This was followed up with lunch- a nice end to the term!

Last week, the NCTTC hosted a group of very enthusiastic ‘Red Hatters’ who celebrated Christmas in July, which was catered by the VET Cookery class. The guests were very grateful for the efforts of the students and Bernie, Fiona and Kylie. The ladies are return visitors and assured us that they will be back again in the future.

VET Community Services

Once again, the Community Services class assisted with the Meals on Wheels program. Mrs Aurisch said there was an increase in the deliveries required, which kept the students on their toes. As part of their unit ‘Work with Diverse People’, the class recently interviewed Tash Roberts and Tori Gentle. Our students thank both Tash and Tori for their generosity when sharing their personal and diverse experiences.

Year 7 Wood

With the start of a new semester, we welcomed the Year 7 Charlton College students who started their Wood class with Mr. Edwards and Mr. Segger. They are currently familiarising themselves with the space, while learning about the importance of health and safety, and the foundations of woodwork. We look forward to watching them develop their skills & knowledge.

Pathways Evening- Charlton College

I look forward to meeting with our 2025 students and parents at the Pathways Evening being held at the College tonight. Information will be shared about 2025 VET options, as students are not far off making their selections. This will be a great opportunity to gather knowledge and ask questions!
