Assistant Principals' Report

Dear HPS Community,

Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you had a great holiday and managed to have some relaxing time with family and friends. The weather was very chilly in Melbourne and we are  certainly envious of those families whom travelled to places where the weather was warmer.

We are all looking forward to another wonderful term at HPS. We have lots to look forward to with our many learning and wellbeing opportunities and working towards our goals over the semester.

Over the recent holidays we celebrated National NAIDOC Week. These special celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country. The city of Banyule celebrated NAIDOC with various events around the area.

In the local area of Banyule where our school is located, the first group are the Traditional Custodians, the Wurundjeri-illam People, who have lived on the lands of Banyule for more than 35,000 years. The second group consists of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from different cultural backgrounds from all over Australia – who have come to live in Banyule.

Have a great weekend!
