Wantirna District Inter School Sports

Summer Sports

This term on Thursday 29th August (Day 1) & Tuesday 17th September (Day 2), our Year 5 and 6 students will again represent the school at the District Summer Sports competition. We hope our success from the Winter Sport continues into our Summer Sport teams.

The sports on offer for the Inter School Summer Sport competition include Hot Shots Tennis, Volleyball, T20 Blast Cricket, Fully Loaded Softball and Rounders.

Our students have a high interest in Fully Loaded Softball so we were able to have 2 boys/mixed and 2 girls teams this year. Therefore our school will not have any teams playing Rounder this year.

Teams will be announced and sent to all Year 5 and 6 parents next week by an Operoo permission form.

Parent Volunteers - Urgent

We need the help of at least 2 parent volunteers to support us as coaches for the following sport

  • T20 Blast Cricket Boys & Girls teams
  • Fully Loaded Softball Boys & Girls teams
  • Volleyball Boys or Girls

This will allow our St Simon staff to supervise teams and provide first aid and guidance to students throughout the two days. Umpiring for Fully Loaded Softball and Cricket is quite easy and support in umpiring can be provided as only a very basic knowledge is required. On the day, parents umpiring work with the opposing school teachers and joint umpiring can occur if you are not as confident. Either way we need the support to ensure our students can participate in each sport of the competition.

If you wish to support us with a team or know of someone who can coach a team and is available to help out, please contact Mr Karl Camerino directly by email.

SSV Senior District Basketball Achievement

Congratulations to our St Simon the Apostle Boys/Mixed and Girls basketball teams that recently competed at the SSV Wantirna District competition.

St Simon Girls Results

From the beginning of the day, our girls team was focused on working together. They held strong full court defence pressure which resulted in many steals and easy open fast break layups. It was great to see the girls rotate well in their position on offence, running fast breaks with pace, protecting the ball while dribbling and making good passes. It was great to see the strong performance from all our girls on the day using teamwork which resulted in a day of wins, eventually becoming undefeated and becoming PREMIER! CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS ON YOUR PERFORMANCE FOR ST SIMONS! We look forward to the same success as they compete at the Knox Division Basketball Competition in Term 4 (Friday 11th October).

Their results from their round robin day and finals are below:

Game 1: Win 33 - 2  (Best on court : Zoe Castellucci)

Game 2: Win 23 - 6 (Most points : Alissa Barbotin 8 points)

Game 3: Win 16 -6 (Most points : Mila Valerio 8 points)

Game 4: Win 18 -7 (All round great team performance)

Game 5: Win 13 -4 (Strong performance: Scarlett Woods, Emma O’Keeffe, Abby Gstalter)

Semi Final: Win 24 - 6 (Most points : Mila Valerio 9 points)

Grand Final: Win 13 -4 (All round great team performance)

St Simon Boys/Mixed Results

The day had a buzz about it with our boys giving it their all despite missing one of their best players. The boys moved in sync with each other, getting open shots and strong drives to the basket. Strong performances from Ashton D’Amelio and Kyan Stone around the basket and open buckets from Jacob Quiambao created scoring opportunities for our boys team. In the semi final, they faced a challenging side and had momentum with them but were unable to come away with a win. Their 3rd and 4th place final game was a bit of fun with our St Simon boys going away with a positive finish for the day.

Their results from their round robin day and finals are below:

Game 1: Loss 10 - 15

Game 2: Win 19 - 13

Game 3: Loss 13 -26

Game 4: Win 19 - 17

Game 5: Win 29 - 12

Semi Final 1st vs 4th - Loss 13- 20
