Wellbeing

Purpose    I    Positive Emotions    I   Relationships   I   Meaning    I    Accomplishment

We will begin the term with a focus on reviewing the school norms. The students will have the opportunity to reflect upon their aspirations and achievements during the swimming program which will work on developing integrity and further resilience. Students will complete a survey to assist identifying their personal strengths along with personal qualities they might like to set as goals for further development.

We will learn about the Visible Wellbeing evidence-based topic of Attention and Awareness. Students will learn mindfulness strategies including breathwork and movement activities to manage their emotions and responses. They will have the opportunity to practise focusing their attention whether on inner aspects of self, such as emotions and physical sensations, or external stimuli (e.g. the teacher’s lesson in the classroom). Students will also practise demonstrating awareness by paying attention to a stimulus as it occurs. Evidence proves wellbeing is improved when individuals are aware of and can consciously direct their attention.

Finally, students will cover Topic 8: Positive Gender Relationships within the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum. The intended learning outcomes for students within this unit include:

  • Identify different forms of violence
  • Examining the effects of gender-based violence on targets, witnesses and perpetrators
  • Discussing what respectful & inclusive behaviours look like
  • Reflecting on potential response strategies when analysing conflict situations
  • Connecting to known help-seeking strategies which can be used when unsafe or uncomfortable situations arise
