Welcome back everyone! I hope the school holidays allowed you the chance to spend some time relaxing as a family, enjoying each others company and sleeping in (hopefully).
Another busy term of learning is approaching…. Please be sure to read any communications from your child’s teacher or from the Office so you keep up to date with all that is happening !
These have been sent out this week and outline the themes, ideas and content that will be covered in your child’s class over the course of the term. You might like to read over this with your child(ren) !
Please see our Sport Page for lots more fun photos of our students enjoying the many activities they participated in today. It was great to see so much school spirit and have everyone cheering for each other in their Green and Gold!
The Teachers at OLF spent the first day of this term engaged with dialogue and planning with teachers from a number of schools across the cluster.
Boys Education, Reading K-2 and Writing in Years 3 - 4 were the focus of these sessions, with teachers accessing the sessions at various schools across the region. A very informative day with time for input from several Sydney Catholic Schools leaders of Curriculum as well as the opportunity to network with other primary schools in planning and developing curriculum.
This term we welcome two practicum students from Notre Dame University. We wish them every success with their professional teaching experience. The practicum teachers will be working collaboratively with teachers in designing a variety of teaching and learning activities aligned with the Curriculum and National Professional Teaching Standards. They have already made an impact on the classes they have worked with!
Last week students from K-2 and 3-6 joined in a Liturgy and ceremony that celebrated NAIDOC Week. During NAIDOC we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. The 2024 theme is Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud. The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We were joined by a member of the Gumaraa Rangers who led us in a smoking ceremony. A smoking ceremony is an ancient custom among Aboriginal tribes that involves smouldering various native plants to produce smoking which has cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits. Students were invited to walk through the smoke and therefore ‘cleanse’ themselves’ .
Looking forward to seeing you at our Grandparents Day Mass, Morning Tea and Open Classrooms next Friday - 9th August
