Dear Parents and Carers,

Learning About Life from a Jigsaw Puzzle

Jigsaw puzzles, often seen as mere entertainment, can serve as a powerful association for various aspects of life. The process of solving a jigsaw puzzle mirrors many of the experiences, challenges, and lessons we encounter in our daily lives. Some of the ways that we may associate that activity of solving jigsaw puzzles to the challenges we face in our everyday lives are listed below:

Individuals need to develop patience and perseverance:

Completing a jigsaw puzzle requires patience and perseverance. You cannot force pieces to fit where they don't belong, and sometimes, progress can seem painstakingly slow. Similarly, life often demands patience and a willingness to persist through challenges, even when immediate results are not visible.

It is importance that you identify with perspectives:

When tackling a puzzle, you often need to step back and look at the bigger picture to see how individual pieces fit together. In life, it's essential to maintain perspective and understand how various experiences and decisions contribute to our overall journey. This broader view helps us make more informed and balanced choices.

How can you overcome frustration:

Working on a puzzle can be frustrating, especially when pieces don't seem to fit. Learning to manage and overcome frustration is a valuable life skill. It teaches resilience and the ability to remain calm and composed in the face of obstacles.

Teamwork and collaboration may be the secret to success:

Solving a large jigsaw puzzle often becomes easier with teamwork. Collaborating with others, sharing insights, and combining efforts can lead to faster and more efficient problem-solving. This mirrors the collaborative nature of many aspects of life, where working together can yield better results than going it alone.

It is important that you are adaptable and flexible:

Sometimes, you might start with a strategy that doesn't work as expected. In such cases, being adaptable and flexible is crucial. Changing your approach, trying new methods, and being open to different perspectives can lead to success, both in puzzles and in life.

Sharing and feeling success:

The sense of accomplishment upon completing a jigsaw puzzle is immense. This reflects the fulfillment we feel when we achieve our goals in life. It reminds us that hard work, persistence, and patience eventually pay off, leading to a deep sense of satisfaction.

Thank you for your support and expertise in working with your child to navigate the many jigsaw puzzles that they navigate in life. It is so important that we continue to work together to build their resilience to bounce back when challenged, so that they can feel that all important sense of accomplishment.

Prayer for Mary MacKillop on this special Feast Day today

God of love,

We thank you for the life of St. Mary MacKillop,

Who showed us your compassionate heart.

May her example of faith and service inspire us to live our lives with courage and love.

St. Mary of the Cross, you faced many challenges with a trusting heart.

Help us to persevere through our difficulties,

And to place our trust in God's providence.

You cared for those who were poor and marginalized. Open our hearts to the needs of others,

And help us to be a source of hope and comfort.

St. Mary MacKillop, you founded the Sisters of St. Joseph

To educate and care for the children and the needy.

Guide us in our efforts to educate and support those in need.

Through your intercession, may we grow in faith, hope, and love.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Until next week,

Keep smiling,

Alison Hatton
