Reading
CURRICULUM FOCUS
This week in Reading we have been learning to synthesise while we read.
VOCABULARY
Synthesise: when readers change their thinking as they read.
Prior Knowledge: what I already know about a text or topic
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Ask your child to choose a dot book from their blue satchel and draw something that they already know about the text.
- At first I was thinking…
Then have them read the book and draw something that they learnt. Then ask your child to form a sentence, synthesising what they already knew about the text and what they learnt.
- Now I am thinking…
- Has my thinking changed/ deepened/ stayed the same?
For example: a book about dogs.
At first I was thinking that dogs were just pets. Now I am thinking dogs can have jobs like police dogs. My thinking has deepened as I now know dogs can be pets and also work like adults.
