Father's Day Celebrations
The weather was great for our recent Father's Day Picnic, and we appreciate all of the special guests who could attend to share a picnic with their child/ren. Photos of the picnic are on another page in this newsletter edition.
I would laso like to thank the following parent helpers for serving at the Father's Day Stall. Jenni Maypiece, Kylie Williams, Simone Armstrong, Rachel Burns, Chloe Mula, Jeewat Kaur Singh, Karlie Suttie, Sarah Bannister, Nicole Atkins and Rachelle Thom.
Flag Mystery
Our Year 6 student leaders have been busy detectives in recent months, until last Monday when their mystery was solved....
Earlier this year, our newly appointed student leaders were investigating flag raising protocols for commemorations. During their research, they found a government website that had conflicting information about which 3 flags should be flown on our school flag poles. After much discussion as a leadership group, the leaders felt it was best to write to the government, specifically our State MP, Ms Jordan Crugnale, and seek clarification. Please see the letter written by Reyansh, Avii and Georgia on the left.
Last week Ms Crugnale MP arrived at our school with the following letter response to the student leaders' query, as well as gifting us some free books for our school library.
BIOEYES
Last Thursday Ms Smith took a group of 36 students to Cranbourne Botantical Gardens. These students were selected to participate in a Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series program. This nature-based STEM-based program engaged our students in biomimicry (design inspired by nature). Students observed biological strategies and patterns of nature and learned how nature could be used for design inspiration, and problem-solving.
Hoop Time Basketball Competition
Last week, we had 41 students from Years 5/6 compete in Hooptime at Casey Stadium. We had some tough competition, but lots of wins, lots of fun, great teamwork and sportsmanship, which was great to see. With our 5 teams, we had 2 teams come 3rd, 2 teams come 4th and one team 5th. A BIG thank you to our staff and parent helpers on the day. A special thank you to Sarah Heywood, Elena Cormack and Damien Smith for your coaching and scoring help on the day. We really appreciate it.
Junior Hooptime
This Tuesday, 4 teams of our Year 4 students also competed in Hooptime at Casey Stadium. All teams had some wins! It was great to see all the teamwork and sportsmanship from our players and watching them encourage and cheer each other on. Our school was invited to take part in a Wheelchair Basketball Clinic and mini 3v3 competition run by Basketball Victoria in between our games, which was a fantastic experience for them.
A big congratulations to our All Star team for making the Grand Final and then winning the game in overtime! It was a very exciting game. Well done to all our teams on a fantastic day. I would also like to thank our parent helpers - Jenni Maypiece, Karlie Suttie and Chloe Johnson for all their help with coaching and scoring today.
Sadly, our outdoor school basketball courts will remained closed for the rest of this term. This is due to the wrong asphalt mix being used, which contains a lot of small glass and recycled particles. The decision has been made by the builders to pull up the current asphalt and re-lay it with a better quality material. This will be of no cost to the school and we hope that this will be done in the dryer weather of the Term 3 holidays.
Lightning Premiership
Next Tuesday our Year 6 (and some Year 5s) are playing in the Lightning Premiership sports against other schools in our District. There are two locations where these sports will be played. Blast Cricket and Softball at Camms Reserve. Basketball and Newcombe at Casey Stadium. We wish these students the best of luck.
Footy Day
Monday 16th September we will be celebrating our annual Footy Day, in the lead up to the AFL Grand Final. It is the last Monday of this term, and is filled with fun activities. Some of which are outlined below:
PLT Assembly Principal Awards
Term 4 - Student Free Day
The Department of Education and Training has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated professional practice day on the same day for all staff, similar to what occurred last year. This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day.
As a result, we have scheduled our professional practice day for early next term on Monday 4th of November. Students will therefore not be required to attend school on this day. Team Kids will be operating on this day.
