In STEM, students have been participating in coding activities to program computers and robots. Through platforms like Scratch, Scratch Jr, CodeBugs, etc, they have been learning to sequence commands, use conditional logic, and control variables to solve problems and perform tasks. In robot programming, students often use simple code to operate robots like Ozobots to control movement, sensors, and responses. This hands-on experience helps them understand real-world applications of coding, fostering skills in critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration as they build, test, and refine their projects.
The STEM room has been open at lunch on Fridays so students can participate in various activities. Here are some of the creations made.
Thanks to Sebastian and Isla (STEM Leaders), who assisted with setting up and packing up sessions. The STEM room will continue to open on Fridays for the remainder of the term.
A big thank you to Isla (6G) for organizing the student art competition and to Sebastian (6G) and Archie (6G) for their invaluable help with adjudication. It's inspiring to see students take the lead on their initiatives. The results will be published soon.
Earlier this term, parents were surveyed for their opinions on improving TV remotes. Using this data, the Year 5/6s explored creating their remotes. Here are some of the designs. Students had to make a digital design and a 3D image using isometric paper.
This is a reminder that St John's is no longer using Flexi Schools to communicate electronically with parents. We are now using the nForma for Parents App, which is also the app through which student reports will be shared electronically with parents.
For instructions on how to install the app, please refer to the previous newsletter... https://newsletters.naavi.com/i/MLrXvZN/issue-7/page/11
