Be Bold Be Heard

The Be Bold Be Heard (BBBH) Celebration Forum took place on Tuesday 15th October.

The BBBH initiative is a Geelong based young women’s leadership group. Young women in years 9 and 10 come together from across the region and review school data and seek to create positive change in the school context. This is supported by a regional forum every term, where the young women get to hear from a panel of inspiring female leaders and share their school experiences with each other. The BBBH program supports young women to be bold and be heard in making positive changes.

At the most recent forum, we heard from Justine Martin, an award winning speaker, resilience coach, artist and business owner all whilst having a disability. Jenny Robertson who is a Civil engineer, who whilst working her way up into leadership she was one of only 12% of the women represented in her workplace. Ali Waight (Right) is a multiple business owner who became the first female president of the award winning Queenscliff Football and Netball club. All three women were inspiring to the 170 young women present.

We have been part of this amazing Geelong initiative for two years now and have been so proud to watch the development of the team’s leadership. The Belmont High School BBBH team have run a forum this year and are researching into ways to enhance female participation in sports at school.

Thanks to Mr Rowan O’Callaghan for supporting this group to be bold and be heard at Belmont High School. Thanks to team members Ava Volke, Sienna Krizek, Isca Searle and Kara Schluter for presenting on behalf of the team.

We encourage any current year 8 students who would like to participate in this great initiative next year to contact Mr O’Callaghan or a member of the BBBH team.
