Saxophone Masterclass
Ten of our Saxophone students went to Ballarat High School last Thursday for a masterclass run by Paula Maki. They learnt about the many different styles of saxophone music there are and enjoyed playing simple melodies together. Our students each had a go at improvising over the top of the saxophone ensemble and they found the whole experience to be very rewarding. The sound of so many saxophones playing in unison was so wonderfully soothing! By Mrs. Moffatt
Where are they now?
Many of our students have gone onto professional careers in music over the years, and we thought we’d share a few stories of ex BHS students who are doing great things in the music industry.
Jonnie Gardner, Green House (class of 2014) has picked up a lead role in the Australian cast of ‘The Lord of the Rings – A Musical Tale’, opening in Sydney early next year, and touring the country.
Todd Daffy, Blue house (class of 2018) who creates and curates dark and epic covers and originals, has a huge and growing fan base for his work, recently released a new album:
Year 6 Music Program
Grade 6 students are in their second week of lessons, with some recognizable tunes starting to be heard across the music department on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays! We are really enjoying getting to know our 2025 Year 7 music students and looking forward to hearing them all together at the Year 6 Music Program concert on Tuesday December 3rd, at 5.30pm in the BHS PAC.
Ensemble CAT
All ensemble program students will complete their Ensemble CAT over the next few weeks and will present their performances at the Ensemble night on Tuesday 12th November in the PAC. Family and friends are invited to come along and enjoy the variety of groups that have been working together to prepare for this performance.
Instrumental music lessons will end in the last week of November, and we ask that all instruments be returned if students are not continuing, to allow time for cleaning and maintenance.
