3-Year-Old Kindergarten
ELC 3 had a visit from the Mornington Peninsula Shire Environmental Education Program, to explore how to look after the ocean. The children were able to hold various treasures found in the ocean including cuttlefish, seaweed, sea sponges, and shells, and learned that these treasures tell us what is living in the ocean.
The children tried to feed birds from a bowl with a mix of bird seed, sand and rubbish. They found it was really difficult to avoid feeding the birds the rubbish. As a group, we sorted a large pile of rubbish, and placed each item into the categories of compost, recyclable paper, recyclable metal, and recyclable glass.
The children learned how long it takes for each item to break down in the soil. They learned of the many ways we can reduce, reuse and recycle to keep our oceans clean.
It was wonderful to welcome all of the Grandparents and special visitors into the ELC for the morning. The children thoroughly enjoyed spending time with their visitors at the different activities and eating morning tea together. Thank you to all of the visitors for sharing this time with ELC 3!

4-Year-Old Kindergarten
Thank you to all our important and wonderful Grandparents and special friends who visited our ELC a few weeks ago. This day was an opportunity for children to honour, to show appreciation and gratitude towards their grandparents and to help children become aware of how important, how much love, guidance and strength extended members of our families can offer.
We had a few weeks of discussing the different occupations we currently know and thinking about who we want to be when we grow up. It was concluded with an ‘occupational dress up day’ where lots of excitement and conversations were shared.
The end of the year is quickly arriving as we begin to transition our wonderful cohort into their prep classrooms to familiarise themselves with their teacher, their friends and their new school environment. The children are playing school, students and teachers in the ELC dramatic area where we have a ‘school-like’ corner set up. The teachers and children exchange roles. This was very much enjoyed by the teachers as they imitated the children sitting on the mat, listening to stories.
The children’s Christmas Concert practice is in full swing, learning the lyrics to the songs, learning the actions, learning the real meaning of Christmas, making props and decorations. It is a busy and eventful time for the little ones as we watch them reach their final milestones here at the ELC.
