Leadership Report

Welcome back

We wish to welcome all students and families back to commence Term 4. We hope all families had a wonderful school holiday break filled with plenty of exciting and fun family opportunities, as well as some time for some much-needed rest.

Term 4 is always an exciting and busy term in the school calendar. We have so many exciting things taking place this term and it will be a wonderful celebration and time for our entire school community to continue to come together and further engage and connect.

Positive Behaviours for Learning

At our Pupil Free Day on Monday, staff engaged in Professional Learning in Positive Behaviours for Learning.

Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) is an evidence-based framework that supports equity and improved learning outcomes for students. The focus of PBL is on teaching behavioural skills through explicit instruction. Through this approach, PBL is both preventative and responsive to the needs of children. At Marion PS, we are aiming and striving to support improved inclusive practices and reduce the rate of disciplinary responses so that student learning and teaching practices are maximised.

We have been working in this space this year to further support student engagement, inclusion and achievement for all students in all areas of the curriculum.

What this means in classrooms and how you can assist your child

During this first week back, teachers and students in all classes have been reconnecting with classroom expectations, rules, and norms to reestablish positive and successful routines in classrooms. When Leadership has been visiting and welcoming all classes back this week, we have been reiterating these reminders and messages through our conversations with students and classes to support a positive commencement to the term whereby all classrooms are focused, engaged and successful. We understand that PBL strategies will enable greater engagement in classes.

We know that Term 4 is a busy and exciting time that flies by, however, it is very important that we still maintain high expectations with all students to ensure we maximise learning opportunities and engagement. Support from all families in helping to maintain routines and reminding students to be working hard, trying their best at school and following classroom and school rules/expectations, will help to ensure we are all consistent in supporting our students.

Class Placement Processes

We are now commencing the initial stages of the class placement process. Please see the dedicated page in the newsletter with further information and the hard copy note that came home today with information regarding friendship selections.
