From The Team

What an exciting fortnight it’s been in Year 5/6! Our students have shown fantastic progress and creativity, especially with their Arcade Game projects, which are shaping up brilliantly. They’ve also enjoyed hands-on experiences in cooking with Julie, and working in the garden, building valuable skills along the way.

The past two weeks have been filled with memorable activities, from completing the 'Fun in 5/6' Trivia Challenge, and the guided drawing session, as well as our Market Day. It was wonderful to see so many families there, and we’d like to give a big thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to make it all possible.

We’d also like to recognise our students who have been preparing and practising for the Rugby Gala Day, which took place today, as well as for the Boys Netball Day next week. We’re so proud of their dedication and enthusiasm!

Thank you for your ongoing support – we look forward to more fun and learning in Year 5/6!

What We Are Learning

Reminders

Homework

Don’t forget homework! It is the expectation that students read for 20 minutes every night, and complete their Writing and Mmaths homework given every fortnight. Students need to complete their homework in their homework books and fill in their reading diary.

Free Second-Hand Books

In our library we still have some second-hand books available in the tubs lined near the desk - free for the taking!

Arcade Games

Our games are still being constructed and we are piecing together our designs. If you still need to source any items from home, make sure you do so soon, as our Arcade Games event is right around the corner!

Try This...

Brian is buying fruit for a picnic. He needs at least 100 pieces, but doesn’t want more than 110.

The fruit shop sells fruit in bags. Apples come in bags of 10, oranges come in bags of 8, passionfruit come in bags of 12, and pears come in bags of 6.

What combinations of fruit bags could Brian buy for the picnic?

List some possibilities.

Buddy Movie Night

Last Friday, our Year 6 students joined their Foundation Buddies for an unforgettable Buddies Movie Night and Teddy Bear Sleepover in the Foundation room! We started the night with pizza and ice cream cones with sprinkles, then got comfy to watch Toy Story. Afterwards, we tucked our bears into bed and read them a bedtime story. The teachers took turns keeping an eye on the bears over the weekend at school, but when we arrived on Monday morning, we found they’d had a wild time! The Foundation room was a mess – it seems the bears partied while the teachers went out for their morning coffee!

Cooking with Julie

On Tuesday the 22nd of October, 5/6W had the opportunity to cook with Julie. The week before, we came up with suggestions of what we might like to make. We then voted on our favourites and we decided that we would be making brownies and blondies! First, we headed down to the staff room and split into two groups. One half got to bake brownies whilst the other half decorated Halloween biscuits. The people who started off with the brownies all had a chance to help with making the brownie batter. Once we had made the brownie batter, we baked it in the oven. Then we went to have a look at the fantastic cookie decorations everyone else made. People made things like spiders, vampires and witches out of things like fairy floss, lollies, sprinkles, icing and lots more. When both groups were done, we then swapped over. The group that were decorating the biscuits made blondies and the group making the brownies decorated the biscuits. In the end, everyone got a chance to eat a piece of brownie and blondie as well as their decorated Halloween biscuit. We all had a fun time eating our delicious treats and especially baking and decorating with Julie.

In an exciting baking session with Julie, 5/6H had a fantastic time learning how to make delicious cookies! Half of the group followed a classic recipe to whip up some yummy chocolate chip cookies, while the other half got creative by decorating Marie biscuits with fun Halloween-themed designs. We used inspiration photos to make ghosts, witches, scary faces and pumpkin heads using heaps of different decorations. The decorations we used included different coloured icing, candy eyes, fairy floss, sprinkles, licorice and more. After some tasty fun, the groups swapped activities, so that everyone had a chance to try their hand at both cookie-making and festive decorating. It was a great way to celebrate the season and indulge in some sweet treats!

5/6S had a wonderful morning baking with Julie. We were split into 2 groups and swapped half way so we got to do both activities. One group made chocolate chip cookies while the other group decorated Marie biscuits with a Halloween theme. When making the cookies, we all contributed to each step of the recipe such as measuring out the ingredients, mixing the wet and dry ingredients, and even smashing chocolate blocks to break it into chunks! The result was a lovely, warm and chewy cookie. To decorate our Marie biscuits, we were able to choose from a variety of lollies and toppings, as well as create our own coloured icing. Everyone’s creations were unique and spooky. We are excited for our next baking with Julie session. Thank you Julie!

Market Day

On Saturday the 26th of October, Scoresby Primary School hosted a Market Day. At the Market Day there were stalls selling all types of cool, crafty stuff. There were also lots of different food vans selling potatoes on a stick, pasta, a coffee van for the adults, ice cream van, some calamari (which was really yummy), and there were also some lolly shops. There were tons of fun games like the Chocolate Toss, the Jaffa Smash, also Guess How Many Lollies in the Jar, and more. The 5/6s donated second-hand books to sell, along with pre-owned toys and board games. There was also face painting, a silent auction (the trampoline had a lot of bids), and they had a plant stall and a candle stall as well. In the hall we had stalls like a crystal shop, cookie tasting, resin craft and lots of other things too.
