We would like to remind you that ALL students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September, when UV levels are typically higher. Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.Â

Wow! There are a lot of things on the upcoming calendar for our Grade One and Two students. Please make sure you finalise payments and permissions on Sentral.Â
Â
The Grade One 'Onderful Day' permission is due. You have been sent an additional form in regards to dietary requirements and pick up arrangements. Please return the form to school ASAP .

The Grade Two Day Camp at Mt Evelyn is available on Sentral to make payment and give permission. Look out for additional notices that will be sent home soon, which need to be filled out and returned, such as dietary requirements and medical forms.

CURRICULUM
đ Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics
To support our work using the UFLI program students use their iPad's twice a week to manipulate letters and sounds on a blending board. We would appreciate iPads coming to school fully charged each day.

 Students will complete two sounds this week.
Â
Grade One Students are reviewing r-controlled vowels and are beginning to explore the long vowel sounds, beginning with long a. Students will read decodable words, phrases and texts. They will learn the following heart words: father, water, today and very.

Grade Two Students will begin looking at the prefix -un and the suffixes of -less and -ful.
Students will read decodable words, phrases and texts. They will learn the following heart word: truth and truly.

đ Literature: reading responses and writingÂ
The students will continue to explore the  NASA Science Space Place as well as use the mentor texts of Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover Written and Illustrated by: Markus Motum and Hello, Opportunity: The Story of Our Friend on Mars, by Shaelyn McDaniel.

Students will use these texts to build an understanding not only of nearby planets but also of how humans are able to explore them. We will compare texts, examine the adjectives used, make inferences, and search for information.

What can you do at home?
-Encourage your child to retell what they have just read. Ask questions such as; What were the main events? Can you place the events in order? What kind of text is this? Why has the author written this?

Students will begin exploring location, developing vocabulary to describe movement to and through familiar places.

What can you do at home?
-Give directions to move to certain places in your house using language such as, left, right, forward, back, north, south, east, west, diagonal, parallelÂ
-Have your child give you directions to move to a certain location in your house or backyard.

đ CBL - Curiosity
Our Term Four Big Idea is Curiosity. Students have begun to look at space and the objects that are naturally found in space and objects that have been placed there by humans.Â
Â
Students will begin to make observations of the moon, and we will be encouraging students to make these observations at school and home. Please look out for a recording sheet and letter explaining this during the week!
